Thursday March 26th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1: Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop.  Mini lesson to focus on perspective lens.....we'll look at how Despereaux and his brother Furlough both see the world.  Despereaux is a dreamer and Furlough is a Rule-follower.

Period 2: Writer's workshop.  We're going to polish our 'Stories of (You)'.  Make them even better.

Period 3: we'll stay outside for a bit, then come in and do some math.  I have some more 'drawing fractions' work plus we still need to find some of the hidden 'fractions questions' our co-op student Oliver hid around the school.

Period 4 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 is computer buddies....the plan today is to review games off the PBS website and decide up the 'target age group'.

Period 6 we'll enjoy a bit of finish up/free time.

Wednesday March 25th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop.  We'll look specifically at character traits vs character feelings...zeroing in on Despereaux.  The kids will then hopefully look for a trait or feeling from the main character in their books.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop.  Mini lesson is going to lean into Kate DiCamillo's style in The Tale of Despereaux...the kids are going to write their own 'serious' book of 'You'.

Period 3 if it's nice we'll stay outside for a bit.  When we come in we'll work on fractions...trying our best to divide both circles and rectangles into various fractions (it's one thing to identify a fraction...it's another to draw it).

Period 4 Music with Mrs. Haynes (she's back).

Period 5 we'll do a 'fraction scavenger hunt' around the school.

Period 6 we'll do some 'spring chicken art' where we investigate different kinds of lines.

Tuesday March 24th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1-Red light, read aloud (I found the novel that went missing yesterday).  And quick activity where we dive deep into the main character (Despereaux)

Period 2 -French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 -Outside for a bit...when we come in, more Faction work...just working on naming and identifying fractions.

Period 4 -I've put 10 questions on Prodigy...same thing, identifying and representing fractions.

Period 5 and 6 is social studies.  The big idea today will be about the mutual benefit of the indigenous and settlers early trade.   We're going to set up a little 'trading post' and the kids will attempt to trade with the 'other side' for things they'll need.  I hope it works out.

Monday March 23rd

I hope everyone had a great March Break.

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, Weekend Round Up, new read aloud (The Tale of Desperaux).

Period 2 - I've got a quick activity for the kids to do about the main character, Desperaux, how he feels on the inside, and how he's perceived on the outside.

Period 3 -if it's nice we'll stay outside for a bit and then come in and talk a little more about Fractions, specifically the numerator and denominator...I've got some worksheets that they should be able to do easily.

Period 4 -we'll use the chromebooks to practice our fraction skills.

Period 5 -is gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 - I know they'll come back wired...so we'll do some 'calm colouring' and maybe finish watching the pilot episode of Little House On the Prairie.

Period 3 and 4 is board game day!  Mr. Z and I will open up our classes to let the kids play board games.

Period 5 we'll attempt to make some butter and try it out.  I also have a peaceful POV canoeing video to put on the big screen and some colouring sheets to do to keep us calm before...

Period 6 -Gym with Mr. D.
