Wednesday February 18th

I'll share what I have planned today...but we'll see how many kids brave it through the ice to get here...plans are subject to change!

Period 1 - Red light, Read aloud, Reader's workshop:  I have a mini lesson on using text clues to help us find our voice while reading.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - I'm hoping everyone can now write an apology letter back to their 'striking' body part.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll look at how to convert mm to cm and cm to m and m to km...then back down the other way.  I have a combination of work and play planned.

Period 5 is gym.

Period 6 I'm hoping to start a real quick short art lesson on famous Black artist: Esther Mahlangu.

Tuesday February 17th

Here is the plan for today:

It's a Friday schedule...

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, weekend round Up.  Then we'll work to finish our 'body part strike' letters of resignation.  I will go over with them the success criteria.

Period 2 -we'll head to the library for book exchange.  The kids will have the choice to read or write quietly, or play some literacy based games on the chromebook posted on Google Classroom.

Period 3 is math.  We'll work in partners to measure various objects around the classroom and school.  We will measure tiny things (mm), medium things (cm) and larger things (m).

Period 4 I have posted 3 questions on Knowledgehook that the students should be able to answer quiet easily.

Period 5 we'll do a health lesson about staying safe in different places and focus on smart decision making with some role playing activities.

Period 6 is Gym with Mr. D.

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1-Red light, Read aloud, Reader's workshop:  Mini lesson is focusing on the conflict between Alan and Norbert.

Period 2 -Writer' workshop.  We're having fun with this perspective writing.  Today we're going to write Body Part Strike letters (e.g., Dear Human, I'm writing to tell you that I'm leaving your face...).  Writing letters of complaint from different parts of our body.

Period 3 we'll play outside for a bit, then come in and do some measuring around the classroom.

Period 4 is Music.

Period 5 and 6 is Art.  I'm going to combine 'valentine's day' with a Black History Month.  We'll look at the artist Jean-Michel Basquiat unique street art...and make a heart in his style (with a 3 point crown on it)

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and a quick lesson from the perspective of a body part.

Thursday February 5th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1: Red light, read aloud, and I have a fun activity planned where the kids need to make an 'identity card' for Norbert (the Alien living in Alan's nose).

Period 2: Writer' workshop:  We're going to re-examine perspective.  I'm trying to have the kids write from an ant or alien's perspective...so a tennis ball isn't just a 'green fuzzy tennis ball', but it becomes a 'Glowing yellow hairy planet!  When it hits the ground, it screams 'boing' and tries to fly back to the stars.  It has a white mountain range that wraps around it's belly.'

Period 3 is Math.  I'm hoping to conference with everyone about multiplication and division while they work on their cootie catchers and answer questions on prodigy.

Period 4 is Music.

Period 5 is Computer buddies...we'll be playing around on Chrome's Music Lab.

Period 6 is finish up.  We'll finish up our math, conferences, writing...and maybe even enjoying a bit of free time?
