Tuesday February 10th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and a quick lesson from the perspective of a body part.

Period 2 -French.

Period 3 and 4 we'll stay outside for a bit...it's finally normal weather!  Then when we come in we'll work on measurement.  We'll look closer at the millimetre.  I've got some work to do measuring various objects in the classroom.  We also have some work to finish up on Prodigy.

Period 5 and 6 we'll do a little health, talking about mental health and stressful feelings.  We will also start work on a new STEM challenge.  I'll put them into random groups and they'll try to make paper bridges to support as many toy cars as possible.

Monday February 9th

Sorry I forgot to post on Friday...it was a good day...we did stuff!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, weekend round up.

Period 2 Reader's/Writer's workshop...hoping everyone finishes their perspective writing.

Period 3 and 4 Maybe we'll get outside?  Regardless, we'll start our new measurement unit.  Looking today at the cm and m...and maybe touch on the KM.  I have some work to do unplugged...then a little bit of 'plugged in' work afterwards.

Period 5 is Gym.

Period 6 we'll do a little mindfulness and enjoy some free time while we watch the Olympics!

Thursday February 5th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1: Red light, read aloud, and I have a fun activity planned where the kids need to make an 'identity card' for Norbert (the Alien living in Alan's nose).

Period 2: Writer' workshop:  We're going to re-examine perspective.  I'm trying to have the kids write from an ant or alien's perspective...so a tennis ball isn't just a 'green fuzzy tennis ball', but it becomes a 'Glowing yellow hairy planet!  When it hits the ground, it screams 'boing' and tries to fly back to the stars.  It has a white mountain range that wraps around it's belly.'

Period 3 is Math.  I'm hoping to conference with everyone about multiplication and division while they work on their cootie catchers and answer questions on prodigy.

Period 4 is Music.

Period 5 is Computer buddies...we'll be playing around on Chrome's Music Lab.

Period 6 is finish up.  We'll finish up our math, conferences, writing...and maybe even enjoying a bit of free time?

Wednesday February 4th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud (new book, A Nose From Jupitar).  Mini lesson is focusing on perspective.

Period 2 -writer's workshop - mini lesson will also focus on perspective....(e.g., seeing a stapler as a metal crocodile).

Period 3 we'll stay outside for a bit, before we come in and do some math, we'll look at division, with a small remainder (e.g., 15 markers shared between 2 baskets = 7 per basket with 1 left over).

Period 4 is Music.

Period 5 and 6 is art.  In honour of Black History Month, we'll look at Black artist, Alma Thomas.  We'll try to recreate some of her work...or at least in her style.

Tuesday February 3rd

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, Finish up informational paragraphs

Period 2 - French

Period 3 -Outside for a bit?  Come in and do some math.  We'll continue to examine how multiplication and division are related (inverse facts: 3 x 4 = 12 so 12 / 4 = 3).  Then we'll dig into how division just means equal groups (or rows or columns...when looking at arrays).

Period 4 -I've got some old school paper work for them to do before they do some 'new school' digital questions.

Period 5 and 6 is science.  We'll be looking at contact vs non contact, specifically focusing in on Gravity (non contact) and how it essentially pulling us to the centre of the earth.  Any extra time will be for finishing up unfinished work.

Monday February 2nd

Happy February...wow this year is flying by!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, seating swap, weekend round up.

Period 2 - I have a 'Violet Baudelaire' STEM challenge for them this morning...using some string, paper clips and some elastics to make a 'key snatcher'.

Periods 3 and 4 we'll actually watch the NETFLIX tv series of the Bad Beginning.  It's very faithful to the book.

Period 5 is gym.

Period 6 we'll do an 'esti mystery' and use the rest of the period to finish up some unfinished work.
