Wednesday September 30th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud (Every Child Matters) and a discussion about Orange shirt day.  Then independent reading.

Period 2 Writer's workshop.  We'll still working on developing stamina.  I'm going to put up some writing prompts to do with Orange shirt day to hopefully spark some ideas.

Period 4 is music.

Period 5 is art.  We'll decorate our own orange shirts, cut them out and hopefully hang them on a clothes line.

Period 6 when they're finished their orange shirt, I'll have the chromebooks available to play some fun games on cbckids.ca...where hopefully they can learn a little more about indigenous cultures. 

Tuesday September 28th

 Here is plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, Read aloud, class discussion about gym class yesterday, independent reading to build stamina.

Period 2 - French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll continue on our 'Terry Fox inspired math', take a bit of a body break, then come in and do some knowledgehook.

Period 5 and 6 is our first Science lesson.  We'll be learning about plants.  Today we'll look first at different types of plants and then we'll do little 'lima bean' dissection. If we're lucky...maybe even some free time?

Monday September 28th

 Mr. Cross is back!  

It sounds like Mrs. Sylvester loved her week with the class...which is nice to hear.

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, weekend round Up.

Period 2- We'll brainstorm stuff to write about (possibly our weekends?) and do some writing.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll walk a kilometer as a class and compare that to what Terry Fox ran each day (42 km) and how much he ran all together (over 5000 km).

Period 5 we'll do a little mindfulness activity. Learning we can do hard things and when we're stressed or anxious just take it one step at a time.

Period 6 is Gym with Mr. D.

Friday September 18th

 I can't believe I forgot to post yesterday...my apologies...we did stuff!

Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop shop.  We'll talk about what good 'partner reading' looks and sounds like.

Period 2 is Writer's workshop.  The other day we struggled to write for 5 whole minutes...we're going to continue to build stamina and do it again today!

Period 3 is math.  We're going to review 'expanded form' and use base ten blocks to make creations and count them.  

Period 4 we'll try logging into Knowledge hook again to do a game show and activity.

Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 we'll watch the pilot episode of the Wayside cartoon!

Just a quick reminder, I will be away all of next week, I will check my emails when I return.  Mrs. Sylvester will be filling in for me...so no blog posts next week!

Wednesday September 16th

 Here is how today is 'supposed to go'.

Period 1- Red light, Class Discussion - being responsible and kind, independent reading

Period 2 -writer's workshop - brainstorming things we love

Period 3 - Math -we'll try to log on to Knowledgehook and familiarize ourselves with this Board supported math program.

Period 4 - Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 -We'll do the mindfulness origami from yesterday I didn't get to, and then try and figure out our friends math 'Figure Me Out' Sheets.

Period 6 - I'm hoping we earn free time...We're really pushing responsibility, inclusion and kindness

Tuesday September 15th

 Here is plan for today:

Period 1: Red light, read aloud, finish up all about me page -'My family'.

Period 2: First french period with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 - We'll start by trying to solve the 'skyscraper' puzzle from yesterday...then I'm hoping to take the kids outside for an 'outdoor math' activity.  We may stay out there for a few minutes too.

Period 4 -when we come back in, I've got another math game called 'sum it up'.  We'll try learning and playing that one to build our basic math facts.

Period 5 I'm going to try the mindfulness activity from yesterday that I didn't get around to.  We'll be folding an origami dog and then trying to do it independently before asking for help (or giving up!!). Mr. Cross will be trying it too.

Period 6 I'm hoping we keep up the awesome work and earn a bit of free time?
