Period 1 -Music
Period 2 -Reader's workshop.
Period 3 and 4 Math. Looking at scale, and how to create your own bar graphs.
Period 5 -Writer's workshop, with Mrs. Alvarez...interviewing our peers.
Period 6 -finish up...mostly social studies and math!
I apologize for missing the blog on Thursday...crazy days with interviews and book fairs!
Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 we'll do a red light activity, then read aloud, then weekend round up.
Period 2 will be reader's/writer's workshop, student choice.
Period 3 is gym with Mr. D.
Period 4 is math. We'll look at bar graphs, how to read and create them.
Period 5 is social studies. We've covered Great Lakes/St. Lawerence lowlands and the Hudsons's Bay lowlands. Today we'll look at the last landform in Ontario, the Canadian shield.
Period 6 we'll leave open to finish any unfinished work.

Here is what our day has looked like (which is quite different than what I had planned). Book Fairs, Canadian Soccer!!
Period 1 we did a little memorization activity to start the day. Then we had out 'book fair' shopping time.
Period 2, when we finally got back from the book fair we couldn't do anything but read and write in our new purchases. So we did that for the whole period.
Period 3 it was so nice outside...so we ended up staying outside for most of the period.
Period 4 we had our reading buddies with Mrs. Evers' class. We played some fun word games posted on the Classroom.
Period 5 is French with Mrs. O'Neil.
Period 6 we'll put the Canada vs. Belgium world cup game on while try to do some math work...'try' being the key word. We'll hopefully do the 'picto graph' work from yesterday we never got around to.
Here is the plan for today...
Period 1 -music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 2-Read aloud, reader's workshop. Mini lesson focuses on 'using what you know'.
Period 3 is Math. We'll look at both vertical and horizontal pictographs. How to read and create them.
Period 4 is our turn to preview the book fair (TOMORROW WE CAN PURCHASE).
Period 5 is writer's workshop. We'll look at starting with a character to help us begin our stories.
Period 6 is finish up.
Yes! Back in class...and hopefully a little stability?
Here is the plan for today.
Period 1 -read aloud and weekend round up
Period 2 -student choice reader's/writer's workshop.
Period 3 and 4 is math. We'll look at collecting data and the difference between discreet and continous data.
Period 5 and 6 is social studies. We'll look at the Hudsons Bay Lowlands and some of the jobs in that area. Any extra time we have will be free time.
Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 & 2 we'll read aloud the BFG, get our 'book talk' about the book fair and have reader's/writer's workshop (student choice).
Period 3 & 4 is math. We're going to do the Mean and Mode work from yesterday...after we're done our work I've set up a bunch of mean and mode questions on math prodigy.
Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.
Period 6 will be a finish up/free time period.

Apparently I forgot to post yesterday...oops...sorry!
Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 is read aloud, and reader's workshop. Mini lesson focusing on using diagraphs and blends (grouping letters together).
Period 2 is writer's workshop. The mini lesson will focus on 'starting with a character', as a strategy to help us start writing.
Period 3 is math. After a healthy mask break we'll come inside and learn about the Mean and Mode of data...it'll be a hard concept to grasp, but we'll use calculators to help us calculate averages (mean).
Period 4 is music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 5 and 6 is art. We'll be looking at Andy Warhol, and trying to re-create his 'pop art' style with our own donuts or cupcakes.
Well yesterday we started with only 7 away and by the end of the day we were at 9 away. Something nasty is making it's way through our class.

Then we have a diversity assembly pretty much until first break.
Period 3 and 4 is math. We're going to be working on sorting Data using Venn Diagrams and Tree Charts. Yesterday the class worked hard to finish all their work...hopefully we can do the same today.
Period 5 Mrs. Alvarez is coming back in with her engaging writing prompts and going to continue to inspire our enjoyment of writing.
Period 6 Mrs. Haynes is going to take them for music (normally it's period 1, but she wanted to switch because of the assembly.

Period 2 we'll have reader's/writer's workshop, student choice.

Period 4 is math, we'll look at different ways to sort data, by attributes and in carroll diagrams.
Period 5 and 6 we'll use the chromebooks to play a blooket on the Tale of Desperaux and then do some coding on Code.org.
Fingers crossed me have a few more students this week!
Wow...we are seriously short handed today. Missing 8 kids. Something is making it's way through our classroom.
Here is the plan for today.
Period 1 we shared some cool photos from Reid and Zak. Pictures of their great-grandparents. We discussed Remembrance day, and why we wear the poppy. Then I read a couple of chapters of The Tale of Desperaux.
Period 2 was spent doing reader's/writer's workshop. Student choice.
Period 3 and 4 we'll finish our Class novel, then begin the Movie, The Tale of Desperaux.
Period 5 is Gym with Mr. D.
Period 6 we'll finish up the movie and any unfinished work we may have (e.g., poppy art, kandinsky circles). Any extra time will be free time.

I was away yesterday...but I'm back today.
Here is the plan for the day.
Period 1 and 2 we did a math brain teaser about ice-cream to start the day. Then we read "I Wanna Iguana" and talked about persuasive writing. Then we tried our own persuasive writing. The rest of the time we had for reading or writing.
Period 3 is math. We'll look at different ways to sort objects (using 2 or more attributes).
Period 4 is music.
Period 5 and 6 is Art. We are going to work on some Remembrance day art using water colours. I got the idea from this website:

Here is the plan for our 'normal' day.
Period 1 - Music with Mrs. Haynes
Period 2 is Weekend Round Up. Reader's Workshop. Mini lesson focusing on 'thinking while you read'.
Period 3 we'll stay outside with some of the other Grade 3's for a bit. Then we'll come in and do math. We'll look at how a table of values can be used to help you solve patterns.
Period 4 we'll use the chromebooks to log into Epic Reading (I was getting ready for virtual...thought I would show them just in case this happens again).
Period 5 is writer's workshop. We'll look at 'writing to change the world'...finding topic that matter to us.
Period 6 is social studies. Hopefully most people brought back their white duo tangs and we can begin learning about living and working in Ontario!

Period 1 we're going to do some social studies to start the day. We'll look at Canada, the provinces and territories. Then we'll look at the different landforms and the way we use the land in Ontario.
Period 2 we'll have reader's/writer's workshop. They will get to work with partners.
Period 3 Mrs. Pinnington will come into cover my class and take them outside.
Period 4 we'll do some more work with growing and shrinking patterns.
Period 5 is gym/health with Mr. D.
Period 6 is left open for finish up Friday (art, math, social studies).

Period 1 -reader's workshop- mini lesson is on how reader's use many strategies to solve words.
Period 2 is writer's workshop -we're going to review using our senses again to inspire writing.
Period 3 is math. We'll do an Esti-mystery then do some work with growing and shrinking patterns.
Period 4 is music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 5 and 6 is art. We'll look at the artist Wassily Kandinsky and try to use pastels to create some concentric circles in his style.
I was away on Friday, and yesterday was...well...Halloween, and busy. Sorry for the lack of posts.

Period 1 is music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 2 is seating swap and Reader's workshop. The focus is on 'try, try again' to solve unfamiliar words.
Period 3 and 4 is math. We'll look a little more closely at both growing and shrinking patterns. After our work, we'll answer some more patterning questions on Prodigy.
Period 5 is Writer's workshop. Our mini lesson will focus on 'observing closely' (using our senses) to help us write.
Period 6 I'm leaving open as a finish up /candy crash period.
