Friday March 31st

 Woohoo!  Friday and last day of March!

Here is the plan or today.

Period 1-Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 -Reader's/writer's workshop -student choice...I think most kids will choose to continue working on their non-fiction slide shows.

Period 3 and 4 we have a special guest.  Reid's mom, Dr. Beth McNally will be coming in to do a little science/art/writing activity, looking at cars from the past, present and future.  

Period 5 and 6 we'll do a symmetry blooket, then spend the rest of the time finishing up various on the go projects (e.g., yesterday's symmetry art, math, and writing).

Thursday March 30th

 Here is the plan for today.

Period 1-Read aloud.  Reader's workshop.  Mini lesson focuses on understanding the influences on characters.  We'll examine Stanley from our class novel, Holes.  We'll see how different situations help us understand him from different perspectives.  

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll continue working on our writing our non-fiction pieces.  We'll continue asking and answering questions.  Then we'll put that work together into a slideshow.

Period 3 is math.  We'll look at symmetry.  We'll do the following work:

Wednesday March 29th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  I'll read our class novel, Holes.  We'll play around and try to act out a scene.  We'll talk about how putting our selves in the character's shoes really helps us to understand what we're reading.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll continue on with asking questions to guide Non-fiction then use the chromebooks to research the questions we asked.

Period 3 is French with Ms. O'Neil.

Period 4 is math.  We'll look at symmetry and do some symmetry work.

Period 5 is buddies.  We'll play some fun 'spot the difference' games with our buddies.  

Period 6 is Library.  We'll exchange books and enjoy a bit of free time at the end of the day, hopefully.

Tuesday March 28th

Physio this morning...just got in!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -reader's workshop - we'll focus on mapping how characters feelings change throughout the course of a story.

Period 2 is writer's workshop - we'll focus on asking questions to help us focus our writing when writing non-fiction (e.g., what do dolphins eat?).

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll look more at coordinate geometry.  Today we'll be looking rotations, both clockwise and counter-clockwise.

Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 we'll finish our watercolour spring flower from last week.

Monday March 27th

 Boo, a rainy Monday.  Here is the plan for today:


Period 1 -read aloud, weekend round up.

Period 2 - reader's/writer's workshop - student choice.

Period 3 and 4 - if we can get outside for a bit, we will.  Otherwise it will be math.  We'll be looking at co-ordinate geometry.  I've got some questions on Math prodigy as well as some battleship for the early finishers.

Period 5 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll watch episode 3 of Read All About It and answer the comprehension quesitons.

Friday March 24th

Sorry I was away the last couple of days...I'm back today.  Here is the plan.

Period 1 - Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 -reader's/writer's workshop - student choice.

Period 3 and 4 - we'll stay outside for a bit, then come in and do some math on coordinate geometry. 

Period 5 we'll watch chapter 2 of Read All About It and answer the comprehension questions.

Period 6 we'll cruise into the weekend with some online battleship (co-ordinate geometry)

Tuesday March

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 -red light, read aloud, reader's workshop.  Mini lesson focuses on using the back of the book (blurb( to help us choose our books).

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll use the chrome books to write 'March Break' paragraphs.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll stay outside for a little bit, then come in and hopefully finish our area/perimeter house plans.  IF we have time we'll start learning about location and movement on a grid.  

Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 we'll start watching a tv series from my past that also happens to be educational, called Read All About It...it's so old, it's actually cool!  Please don't let your kids watch go ahead at home...(using Youtube).

Monday March 20th

 Welcome back.  Unfortunately I had a medical emergency the day before March Break...but I'm all good now.

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 we'll clean and organize our desks, read aloud the Nose from Jupiter and share highlights from our March Breaks.

Period 2 will be reader's/writer's workshop.  Student choice.  I'm hoping some of the students will write about their breaks.

Period 3 and 4 we'll stay outside for a bit before we come in for math.  We'll play an 'area' game where we're practising multiplying arrays.  Then we'll continue working on our room designs (area and perimeter).

Period 5 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll slow things down with a little free time (tech-free) free time.

Thursday March 9th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  We'll continue to work on 'who's speaking' while we're reading.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll continue to work on our procedural 'how to' writing.

Period 3 is math.  We'll be designing our own dream rooms (and calculating the Area and Perimeter of various rooms and furniture).

Period 4 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 we'll stay outside for a bit.  When we come inside, we'll look at some 'how to' videos to see if we can make pipe cleaner creations, following instructions.  This sort of thing:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MdRYiZQM3aY

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Read aloud -Reader's Workshop - We'll look at 'who's speaking' when we're reading.

Period 2 is writer's workshop, our mini lesson will focus on procedural writing (How To's).  We'll watch this funny video that shows the importance of being specific.

Tuesday March 7th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -read aloud, reader's workshop.  We'll focus on plot, and how events seem to get worse and worse until the climax, then the problem is solved.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll look at 'How To' writing and discuss the parts to procedural writing and attempt our own.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  If it's not too cold, we'll stay outside for a bit, before we come in and learn about area.  I've got a few different games we'll play then we'll do this work:

Monday March 6th

 Sorry I didn't get to blog Thursday or Friday...but I'm back now!


Period 1 and 2 we'll do a red light activity.  Read Nose From Jupiter and share the highlights from our weekend.  The rest of period 2 will be student choice for reader's/writer's workshop.

Period 3 and 4 we'll stay outside for a bit, then come in and do some Math.  We're still looking at Perimeter.  We'll play a class game of 'I have, who has'.  Then we'll do some work, and any extra time we'll use to answer perimeter questions on Prodigy.

Wednesday March 1st

 Is it March already?  Seriously?  Insane!

Here is what we are doing/did today. 

Period 1 we did our big seating swap and read a bit from A Nose From Jupiter.

Period 2 we played some games about Nouns and Homophones:

After we played our game, we went onto English Prodigy for the first time and did some more work with nouns and homophones. 

Period 3 (now) they have Ms. O'Neil and are doing whatever they do in French. 

Period 4 we're going do a blooket about converting metric measurements.  Then prepare for our Bar Graph/Picto-graph blooket with our buddies period 5.

Period 5 we'll be doing a graphing Blooket with our reading buddies.

Period 6 we have the library, we'll do a book exchange and hopefully get some math prodigy time in.
