Thursday March 28th

 Happy long weekend / Easter (to anyone who celebrates it)!

We'll try and have some fun today...here is the plan:

Period 1 and 2 we'll do some red light, read aloud, Choose Your Own Adventure presentations.  After that we'll have the rest of the time to do reader's / writer's workshop.  Hopefully we can get some Scrabble and/or Boggle games going.  

Period 3 is gym with Mr. D

Period 4 is Math...we'll continue on with fractions. We'll finish up the work from yesterday play some new games as a class.

Period 5 is buddies.  We'll play some 'Easter' inspired computer games:  https://www.primarygames.com/holidays/easter/games/

Period 6 we'll do our weekly book exchange in the Library and enjoy a bit of free time before the weekend.

Wednesday March 27th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1-Reader's workshop - same mini lesson as yesterday, as we didn't get to it...using text features to help.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - quickly look at the success criteria of our Choose Your Own Adventure slide shows...maybe even start some presentations.

Tuesday March 26th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Reader's workshop - focus on getting help from features (e.g., glossary, photos, diagrams).

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - hopefully work on our Choose Your Own Adventure stories.  

Period 3 -Wafa the child and youth councillor (CYC) is coming in to start the 'chill club' with us.

Period 4 -if it's not raining, we'll go outside for a bit.  If it is raining, we'll start our next math unit on Fractions.

Monday March 25th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - We have a 'webinar' put on by the Ontario Science Centre all about the upcoming eclipse.

Period 2 -We'll do Weekend Round Up and spend the rest of the time doing reader's/writer's workshop - student choice.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll do some more work with Area and Perimeter. Hopefully we can get outside for a bit and enjoy the nicer weather.

Friday June 22nd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, Reader's/Writer's workshop: Student choice.

Period 2 - writer's workshop - continue with our Choose Your Own Adventure stories.

Period 3 -coding our balanced underwater ecosystem...maybe some class dojo time too (they're begging me).

Period 4 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 is art/earth hour.  We'll recycle some paper to make our own 'earths'.

Thursday March 21st

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1-reader's workshop-mini lesson will focus on how words can have multiple meanings (e.g, force)

Period 2 -writer's workshop - we'll continue on with our Choose Your Own Adventure Slideshows.

Period 3 -gym with Mr. D.

Period 4 - Area Scavenger hunt (I posted area questions all over the school...the kids will search for the questions and answer them)

Period 5 is 'tech buddies'.  We'll play a Blooket with our buddies all about Canadian Money (it might be good practice for us too).

Period 6 is Library/book exchange.  Maybe even get started on our 'coding a balanced marine eco system'.

Wednesday March 20th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light - reader's workshop: mini lesson focuses on using linking words (contractions) to help us understand.  (e.g., similar = such as, and, also....different= unlike, but, not....)

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  The students are pretty excited about their 'choose your own adventure slideshows'.  We'll keep working on those.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll continue on working with area.  I have some group games and some individual work.  Games:

Period 5 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll begin work coding our own underwater ecosystem.  In anticipation of Earth day coming up.  This is a super cool program where the kids have to make fish that eat algae, boats that fish and they have to work on balancing everything...they'll see the effects of too much of one thing or not enough of another.

Tuesday March 19th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Reader's workshop - we'll focus on using meaningful synonyms when we come to words we don't know.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - we'll begin work on our own 'choose your own adventure' style slide shows.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll do a bit of work to wrap up our focus on Perimeter...and hopefully I'll introduce the concept of Area and there is a bit work/games to play to get us ready for Area.

Monday March 18th

 Welcome back.

I'm sure if the kids are anything like me they're off to a slow start today.  No problem though...we'll get through this!

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, Weekend Round Up.

Period 2 -Reader's/Writer's workshop - student choice.

Period 3 and 4 is Math.  We'll stay outside for a bit of extra time then we'll come in and review linear measurement units and how to calculate perimeter.  I've got a bit of work for them to do with partners if they wish.

Period 5 is French with Mrs. Coffin.

Period 6 we'll try to finish the Night at the Museum movie we started before the break.

Friday March 8th

 March Break!  Woo Hoo!


Here is the plan for today: 

Period 1 and 2 we'll finish up our interactive maps/ our whacky news articles and hopefully get some English Prodigy time in.

Period 3 is math.  We'll do some more work with Perimeter.

Period 4 is gym/health with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 is Art...we'll do a fun little 'cursive writing' art activity and maybe even put on a movie as we cruise into the March Break.

Thursday March 7th

 To my legion of fan (that's right, singular...not plural)...I apologize for the lack of a blog yesterday.  I was away.

I'm back today!

Here is the plan:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop - mini lesson on substitute a synonym when you don't know the word.

Period 2 is writer's workshop - mini lesson -will focus on borrowing a 'starting line' to spark our writing.

Period 3 is Mr. D for gym.

Period 4 is Math - we'll continue on with perimeter.

Period 5 is Buddies....I think our buddies have lost interest in coding for the moment...so we'll let the buddies have some fun free time with buddies today...help us get ready for the March Break.

Period 6 we have the library for book exchange but we'll also be rolling up our sleeves to plant some tomatoes in our learning garden with Gennifer Bates.

Tuesday March 5th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Reader's workshop -mini lesson will focus on using synonyms when come to words we don't know.

Period 2 is Writer's workshop - we'll start thinking about planning out our own 'Choose Your Own Adventure' story.  I've got a simple graphic organizer we can use to help us plan.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  Now that we're expert measurers...we're going to begin work on perimeter.  I've got some work to do...and I'll assign some questions on Math prodigy for those early finishers.  I'm also hoping to get outside before the rain comes. 

Period 5 we'll look at TVO's website to learn about invasive bugs...then we'll design our own posters on Google Drawing demonstrating our knowledge.

Period 6 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Monday March 4th

 Last week before March Break!


Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and weekend round up.

Period 2 -we'll briefly talk about making maps of the stories we read to help us understand.  Then the students will be able to read or write, their choice.  I'm hoping to finish our newspaper articles.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll look for objects that meet a certain requirement (e.g., longer than 70 cm, but shorter than a meter) and do some more conversion work.  Afterwards, I have a blooket set up to go through. 

Period 5 is French with Mme. Coffin.

Period 6 I'm hoping to use the chromebooks to finish coding our interactive maps.

Friday March 1st

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -red light, read aloud and the great seating swap!

Period 2 -student choice, reader's writer's workshop...you can work with a friend.

Period 3 is Math...we'll look at measuring in mm/cm/m/km and how to convert between them.

Period 4 is gym with Mr. D

Period 5 and 6 I'm hoping to get outside for a little bit before we come inside and do some art...today's art is going to be all about using a ruler and practising measuring.
