Thursday December 22nd

 Woohoo!  We made it....last day of Grade 3 in 2022!

It's going to be an extremely heavy day today...need to cram in the maximum amount of learning on the last day.

*if there is any time left over after the tests, we may celebrate with a bit of fun...but not too much.

Wednesday December 21sth

 Period 1 and 2 - reader's/writer's workshop/slash work on top secret gift. 

Period 3 and 4 -play outside and computer buddies with our Grade 1/2 friends.

Period 5 is Sing along with Madam O'Neil.

Period 6 is Library/finish up Rise of the Gaurdians

Short but sweet.

Remember, tomorrow is an Early Dismissal...2:10 is the end of the day!

Tuesday December 20th

 Only 3 more days left before break...we're trying our best to keep it together...but it's hard!

Period 1 - Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 -Read aloud, then we'll brainstorm as a class and make an acrostic poem for Mrs. Alvarez, as a thank you for helping us write this year.

Period 3 and 4 - we'll stay outside for a bit.  Then when we come in we'll look at the differences between prisms and pyramids.  And how they're named.  I have a bit of work for the class to do, then we'll answer some question on prodigy.

Period 5 -Mrs. Alvarez is coming in, and we'll work on Holiday cards for our families. 

Period 6 -we'll continue to work on our maps and maybe watch a bit more of 'Rise of the Guardians'.  

Monday December 19th

 Last week of school before the break!

Period 1 we'll do a fun 'brain teaser' to start the day.  I'll read The Twits and we'll share our weekends during weekend round up.

Period 2 is Reader's/Writer's workshop - student choice.

Period 3 is Gym with Mr. D.

Period 4 is math.  We'll learn all about angles. Less than, bigger then and right angles.

Period 5 and 6 we'll continue working on our own city maps.

Friday December 16th

 Last Friday of 2022 (in school).

The kids are a bit squirrel-ly...and by 'a bit', I mean a lot!

Here is the 'plan' for today.  Survive!

Period 1 and 2 Reader's Writer's workshop - student choice.  We read a little 'The Twits' and looked at the New York Times' 'What Is Happening In This Picture'.  Then the kids wrote and read for the rest of the period.

Period 3 we'll stay outside with the other 2 Grade 3 classes.  

Period 4 we'll come in and finish watching the BFG.

Period 5 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 6 is finish up the art from yesterday.

Thursday December 14th

 Missing quite a few kids today...maybe illness? Maybe no busses? Maybe already left for Holidays?  Who knows?

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -we made funny Mr. Cross Acrostic Poems.  Then we read aloud The Twits.  Then it was reader's workshop with a mini lesson that focused on 'cover and slide' to solve unfamiliar words.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  After we finish our newspaper article templates, we'll use the chromebooks (if they choose to)...hopefully start writing articles.

Period 3 is Math.  We'll do this work on Quadrilaterals:

Wednesday December 14th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 reader's workshop - we'll be looking at the strategy of 'breaking a word apart'.  

Period 2 is writer's workshop -we will continue with 'newspaper article' writing.

Period 3 is math.  We'll look at classifying different types of quadrilaterals.

Monday December 12th

 Here is what we did today.

Period 1 we had our weekend round up.  

Period 2 we did a little Winter Art (thanks Mrs. D for the idea).

Period 3 I got to take the kids to the gym for some inside gym class.

Period 5 and 6 we'll stay outside for a bit.  Then we'll come in and take up our social studies activity from last week (different ways we use the land eg., agricultural, industrial, commercial, residential etc...). Then we'll make our own maps.  

If we have any time at the end of the day we might start watching the BFG (the newer version) just to compare it to both the book and the 'old school' animated version.

Friday December 9th

 Ahh...the post concert come down day!

We're going to keep it light today.

Periods 1 and 2 is reader's/writer's workshop, student choice.  I'm hoping we can all finish our 'About Me' books.  

Periods 3 and 4 we'll stay outside for a little while with the other Grade 3's.  When we come in we'll watch the animated version of The BFG.

Period 5 is Gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 we'll finish our movie and hopefully enjoy a little free time before the weekend.

Thursday December 8th

 Here it is...the day of the performance.

This is what our day looks like.  

Period 1 we read The BFG and then moved into reader's workshop...no mini lesson today.  

Period 2 we rehearsed our song in the gym.  

Period 3 we came inside, played a round of 'I Have, Who Has'.  We destroyed our record from yesterday...I think everyone in our class can confidently read an analogue clock!  After that I introduced our next unit, geometry.  

Period 4 they had 'music' with Ms. Pinnington.  I believed they played some Math Prodigy and consolidated some of the 2D shape learning we covered in math class.

Period 5 and 6 is the matinee  performance...so we're kind of on 'stand by' until we're called to the gym.  We'll be spending that time doing a little 'art' and decorating our door for the door decorating challenge the social committee has set up.

Remember, the night time performance is from 6:30-7:30 PM.  I'll be in the class around 6 PM to supervise the kids...I look forward to seeing you tonight...if you're able to come.

Wednesday December 7th

 Here is our day today:

Periods 1 & 2 is our chance to watch the Holiday concert while 'cast b' has their dress rehearsal.

Periods 3 and 4 is math.  We'll play the 'I Have, Who Has' time game.  Then we'll use the chromebooks for some more time games.

Period 5 is French

Period 6 is Library...

Tuesday December 6th

 Here is what we did today.

Period 1 -Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 -Reader's workshop, we learned about how to look ahead and read ending punctuation.

Period 3 we stayed outside with both of the other Grade 3 classes.

Period 4 we did some more 'time' math.

Period 5 we'll do some 'writer's workshop'.  We'll look at newspaper articles, and plan our own.

Period 6 we'll finish our social studies, how we use the land (e.g., commercial, residential, industrial, recreational, conservation) and then play a little 'sim city' to design our own towns.

Friday December 2nd

 Ha...I can't believe I haven't blogged since Tuesday...since I'm not sure anyone reads these anyway, probably not a huge deal?  My apologies...busy week.

Periods 1&2 -we'll do a math activity for 'red light'.  Then we'll try to use book creator to create our own 'about me books'. While they're doing this I'll be conferencing with some of the kids that are struggling with reading analogue clocks.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll stay outside a little extra period 3 then come in and do more work on telling the time.  This is the work we'll do:
