Friday April 28th

 Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop.  We'll continue working on our 'Choose Your Own Adventure' stories.

Period 3 we'll start our next unit in Social Studies (life in Canada in during the1890's).  I always like to introduce this unit by having the class place several benchmark events on a timeline (e.g., WW2, dinosaurs ruled the earth, the invention of the iphone etc...).

Period 4 my 'optical illusion' art was a bit of a bust, so we'll try something a little more straight forward today and work on drawing isometric cubes and using isometric dot paper.

Period 5 we'll do some work on the language of probability (likely, unlikely, certain etc...) and I have some math worksheets to do.

Period 6 we'll cruise into the weekend by watching chapter 12 of Read All About It and answer some comprehension questions.

Thursday April 27th

 Here is the plan for today....

Period 1 we'll do another SET game, then reader's workshop.  We'll read another Choose Your Own Adventure.

Period 2 is writer's workshop...we'll continue working on our 'choose your own adventure slideshows'.

Period 3 we'll be outside for a bit before we come in and explore this website:  https://www.foldnfly.com/#/1-1-1-1-1-1-1-1-2 -making paper air planes to eventually measure.

Period 4 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 we're to do some art. We're going to look at some optical illusion art. These kind of things...I've been unable to make one...hopefully they can!

Wednesday April 26th

 Period 1 -we'll play the set game again, now that we know the rules...it's so good.  Then we'll start our new read aloud, a Choose Your Own Adventure.  

Period 2 for writer's workshop, we'll work as a class to develop our own choose your own adventure slide show...should be fun.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We are going to 'deep dive' more into knowledgehook.  I've posted 54 actual EQAO questions on knowledgehook for the kids to complete on their own time (practise at home??). We'll work through how to access the questions and how to get support.

Period 5 is computer buddies...we'll continue working on our posters from last week.

Period 6 is French (I had to switch things around today for an appointment)

Tuesday April 25th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 we'll look at a cool website/game called the 'set game': http://www.setgame.com/set/puzzle -we'll go over the rules and see how many sets we can find.  Then we'll do our weekend round up.

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop.  I'm hoping to talk about tenses (past, present and future) and do a few questions on English Prodigy.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll stay outside for a bit, then come in and talk a little bit about EQAO and what it will look like (I had PD on it yesterday).  Then we'll try a newish website called Knowledgehook.  We'll play some games and do some work on Knowledgehook (in the style of EQAO). 

Period 5 they have Mr. D for gym.

Period 6 we'll watch chapter 11 of Read All About It and answer some comprehension questions.

Friday April 21st

 Here is the plan for today.


Period 1 Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 We'll read the final 4 chapters (they're short chapters) of Holes.  Then to switch things up a little, I'm going to do some math.  I've got some capacity and mass questions I've assigned on Prodigy that I'd like everyone to finish.

Period 3 Mrs. Alvarez is coming in to help with writer's workshop.  We'll build off of Read All About It and work on our own Limericks.  

Period 4 We'll start watching the Holes movie.

Period 5 We'll continue watching Holes.

Period 6 we'll be outside to help clean up the playground to celebrate Earth Day.

Thursday April 20th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - for red light we'll finish our Mass and Capacity work from yesterday that we never got around to.  Then I'll read Holes and we'll do reader's workshop, with the same mini lesson from yesterday (which I also didn't get around to!)

Period 2 -we'll continue on with the visualization from Stomping Tom's Hockey Song.

Period 3 -we'll use the chromebooks to do some Mass and Capacity questions on Math Prodigy.

Period 4 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 is Art.  After we stay outside for a bit, we'll do some earth day art.  Hopefully it will look a little like this:

Wednesday April 19th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is read aloud and reader's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on using connecting words (e.g., unlike, but, such as, and) to help us with context.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  Hopefully we'll get our last couple of non-fiction presentations done and start working on a unit I've developed based on Stomping Tom's 'Hockey Song'.  

Period 3 is French with Mme. O'Neil.

Period 4 we'll continue working on mass and capacity and do the work from yesterday we didn't get to.

Period 5 is buddies with Mrs. Ever's class.

Period 6 is book exchange.

Tuesday April 17th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -read aloud (Holes) - reader's workshop - mini lesson on inserting a synonym to help solve words.

Period 2 we'll have a fire drill, not sure how long that will last...hopefully enough time to do some presentations afterwards (non fiction slide shows)


Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll look at mass and capacity.  What they are and how to measure.  We'll do some easy work:

Monday April 17th

 I just realized that I forgot to blog on Friday...my apologies.

Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 - Read aloud - Holes, and weekend round up.

Period 2 -we'll have reader's/writer' workshop, student choice.  I'm hoping to squeeze in a couple of more non-fiction presentations.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  If it's nice, we'll spend some time outside.  For math we'll continue looking at equivalent fractions.  We'll use some manipulatives to find as many equavilent fractions as we can.

Period 5 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll watch chapter 10 of Read All About It and do the comprehension questions afterwards.

Thursday April 13th

 Period 1 we had reader's workshop.  We read a few chapters of Holes and played a comprehension blooket as a class.

Period 2 was writer's workshop.  We worked on our slideshows and Addie presented hers.

Period 3 and 4 was math.  We talked about equivalent fractions and did this work:

Period 6 we're going to go to Mrs. Benison's class to check out some cool camouflage art they've done then we'll come back to watch some more non-fiction slide shows.

Thursday April 12th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Reader's workshop -we'll talk about 'reading with a sense of 'wow'.

Period 2 -writer's workshop - we'll continue on with our slideshows.  I think a few kids have even offered to present their slide shows.

Period 3 is French with Madam O Neil.

Period 4 we'll do some a Fraction Blookets and more work on math prodigy

Period 5 we'll do buddies with our Grade 1/2 friends.  We'll be doing a fraction scavenger hunt around the room.

Period 6 we'll do book exchange in the library...I doubt we'll have time to watch the next episode of Read All About It.

Thursday April 6th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - is reader's workshop - we'll actually watch episode 7 of Read All About It and answer the comprehension questions.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll continue on with our non-fiction slideshows.

Period 3, if it's nice outside we'll stay out for a bit.  When we come in we'll do some more fraction work.

Period 4 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 we'll do some calming 'bunny inspired' art and enjoy the movie, Hop.

Wednesday April 5th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 Read aloud and reader's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on what stories can teach us about real life.  We'll examine Holes and talk about some of the themes (e.g., race, poverty, bullying, fitting in, perseverance)

Period 2 we'll continue on with our non-fiction slideshows.

Period 3 Ms. O'Neil has them for French.

Period 4 we'll continue looking at fractions...how to identify them, specifically fractions on a number line.

Period 5 we have reading buddies with Mrs. Ever's class...we'll work with our buddies to make posters of fractions, and the different ways to represent them.

Period 6 is book exchange in the library.

Tuesday April 4th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1: Reader's workshop.  We'll look at what we can learn about characters in the way they interact with other characters.

Period 2: Writer's workshop.  We'll continue our non-fiction slideshows.  We'll create criteria for what makes a good slide show.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll continue our work with fractions.  We'll get to this work hopefully.  Maybe even play prodigy for those early finishers.
