Wednesday April 30th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop: thinking about why characters do what they do

Period 2 -writer's workshop- what is a paragraph and how do we write one?

Period 3 -Helping out in the Glenview Garden

Period 4 -Math - we'll be playing a little 'time bingo'.

Period 5 -Health with Mr. D.

Period 6 - A creative art lesson...animals in disguise

Tuesday April 29th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, Phonics lesson reviewing vowel teams.

Period 2 -French.

Period 3 - Math - I have a time scavenger hunt set up around the school

Period 4 - Once/If they're done the scavenger hunt, I'll have questions on Math prodigy.

Period 5 and 6 -Grade 2's to Smeaton/Raspopov and the Grade 3's stay here to do some EQAO practice...looking specifically at the writing component.  Then we'll look at the life cycle of plants.

Monday April 28th

Happy Monday!

Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, weekend Round Up.
Period 2 -Reader's/Writer's workshop -student choice.

Period 3 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 4 is outside time...it's too beautiful today to stay inside.

Period 5 -Math - We've mastered telling time to the hour...now we're going to explore that minute hand.
Period 6 is Library/computers....answering some time questions on Prodigy.

Friday April 25th

 Here is what we've done (and what we're going to do) today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and we did a quick time lesson...telling time just to the hour.

Period 2 -We had an awesome STEM challenge...kids worked hard in groups of 3 to build the longest paper chain they could.  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1QJURXg9zY5qWZOf4tgwv0-o7acJSJKR_?usp=sharing

Period 3 -Mrs. Haynes has them for music.

Period 4 - My old friend from when I taught in the behaviour class, former EA, Peter Hummel, is coming into the class to teach us how to use the 'tinkercad' website/software.  The goal today is to get the kids comfortable using the program and hopefully they'll be able to design their own keychain with their names on it.  Peter has offered to 3D print them at his house on his printer.

Period 5 and 6 we'll probably be continuing to work on Tinkercad.  If we're able to finish up early, the kids might get a bit of free time.  This is all new to me, so I'm not sure how much time to budget.

Thursday April 24th

 I am sure my faithful reader noticed I wasn't here yesterday....but I am back today.


Here is the plan:

Period 1 -Reader's workshop - focusing on synthesizing.....and how our thinking grows. 

Period 2 Writer's workshop - we'll continue to work on adding descriptive details.

Period 3 is Science for the Grade 2's to Smeaton/Raspopov....Grade 3's to stay here and we'll look a little deeper into EQAO...and what makes a good answer....

Period 4 we'll head outside on this beautiful day.  The Grade 2's will cheer on their Grade 3 friends while we practice for relays.

Period 5 is computer buddies.  We'll have fun sharing our digital pop art and hopefully get some class dojo time in.

Period 6 is gym with Mr. D.

Tuesday April 22nd

 Here is the plan for today

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, weekend round up

Period 2 French

Period 3 -Earth Day clean up

Period 4 -Math...learning to tell the time.

Period 5 and 6 -Grade 2's to Smeaton/Raspopov, Grade 3's to learn about the parts of a plant, and we'll go outside to start the Relay tryouts.

Thursday April 17th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop- focus on 'how our thinking changes while we read' -(synthesizing). 

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - I'm hoping to continue to use our SWBST organizers to help us write 'meatier' stories.

Period  3 -Grade 2's to Smeaton/Raspopov for science. Grade 3's will stay here for some cursive m and n's...then we'll look at the parts of a plant (flower, stem, leaf, root, seed and flower)

Period 4 we'll head outside for some fresh air.  Maybe do a fun little art activity I stole from Mr. Butt.

Period 5 is Computer buddies...we're going to do some 'digital pop art' with our buddies.  It should be fun.

Wednesday April 15th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, independent reading (while I conference with kids about writing)

Period 2 -writer's workshop. We'll work on adding a little 'meat' to the bones of our SWBST stories.

Period 3 -I'll introduce the concept of fractions of a set and whole numbers.  

Period 4-we'll do a blooket as a class and answer some prodigy questions.

Period 5 is gym.

Period 6 we'll work on making some digital pop art to get ready for tomorrow's computer buddies.

Tuesday April 14th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud and the phonics lesson I've been trying to get to (long i)

Period 2 -is French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is Math.  We're going to look at fractions of a set.  

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's head to Raspopov and Smeaton, Grade 3's stay here, we'll tackle the cursive i and l...and do some introductory work on Plants.

Monday April 14th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, weekend Round up...phonics lesson on the long i sound (ie, igh).

Period 2 -Writer's workshop, I have a fun writing activity planned where they choose from a list of SWBST scenarios to create a complete story.

Period 3 -Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 4 -Math-we'll look at equivalent fractions, and do some work on them

Period 5 -We'll use the chromebooks to answer some equivalent fraction questions on prodigy.

Period 6 is Library/book exchange.

Friday April 11th

 Here is the plan for today...

I know we're missing quite a few kids today...so the plan is subject to change

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, Reader's workshop

Period 2 -student choice, reader's/writer's workshop.

Period 3 -music-Haynes.

Period 4 Math - We'll use google drawing to create our own fraction museum.

Period 5 and 6 I'm going to show them the very old animated movie of the BFG before we read the book...then we'll read it, then we'll watch the newer live action movie and compare all 3.

Thursday April 10th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop...we focused on how character's change (we read Lilly's Purple, Plastic Purse)

Period 2 -we used the chromebooks to test out and explore the 'spot the difference' websites we'll be showing our buddies.

Period 3 is Music (Friday Schedule)

Period 4 we'll head outside for a bit before we come in and do a little Fraction work.

Period 5 is Buddies!  Spot the difference!

Period 6 we'll enjoy a little free time.

Wednesday April 9th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 Red light, read aloud, phonics lesson.

Period 2 -Grade 2's to library for the float parade, we'll get check them out...maybe some English Prodigy if time allows...

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll head outside for a bit then come in and do some fraction work.  I'm hoping to try and host a 'fraction' gameshow on knowledgehook.

Period 5 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 6 Mr. Hatch is coming in (and maybe Mr. Coutts) to help teach the G chord on the guitar...I'm hoping we can play 'The Lion Sleeps Tonight' on Guitar (D/G/D/A)

Tuesday April 8th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, lost and found creative writing from yesterday I never got to.

Period 2 - French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  I'll introduce our next unit...fractions.  We'll do some work and we'll also use the computers. 

Period 5 and 6 we'll hopefully get outside for a bit, if it's not too cold, and then do a fun STEM activity called the marshmallow challenge (they have to work together using spaghetti noodles and tape to build a tall tower that supports the weight of a marshmallow).

Monday April 7th

 Happy Monday!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, weekend round up.

Period 2 -We'll do a fun little creative writing lesson to get our brains working.  It's called lost and found writing.

Period 3 is Mrs. Haynes for music.

Period 4 is math.  We've got a division worksheet to do.

Period 5 we'll stay outside for a little bit...then come in and do some division questions on Knowledgehook.

Period 6 is library/book exchange.

Thursday April 3rd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud and reader's workshop, mini lesson focusing on Author's message.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop -we'll be looking at varying the start of sentences.

Period 3 is Social Studies for the Grade 2's (Raspopov/Smeaton) and the Grade 3's will stay here to practice their cursive letter 'e'.

Period 4 we'll go outside maybe for a bit to enjoy this weather.  When we come in we'll practice using google drawing to make our own mazes.

Period 5 is buddies.  We'll be exploring making and completing mazes today.

Period 6 is Gym with Mr. D.

Wednesday April 2nd

 Here is the plan for today-

Period 1- Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop- focus on asking good questions, before, during and after reading.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - we'll be using the SWBST (somebody, wanted, but, so, then) organizer to help us write stories.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll do some division worksheets period 3 and use knowledgehook period 4 to consolidate our division skills period 4.

Period 5 is health with Mr. D.

Period 6 I've decided with the inevitable indoor recesses to pull the plug on guitar today (sorry Mr. Bates!).  We'll use Period 6 as a finish up period

Tuesday April 1st

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, Desk Swap, April Fools Quiz and read aloud.

Period 2 -French

Period 3 -we'll spend some time outside (before tomorrow's rain) and come back in for some more division work.

Period 4 -when we're done our division work on paper, we'll use the computer to do some more division work.

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's are off to Smeaton/Raspopov for some social studies... Grade 3's will stick around for some more cursive practice...it's going slow, but they're having fun.  We'll also begin to look at some EQAO-type questions.
