Friday April 29th

 Happy International Dance Day!

Sorry to legions of fan...I haven't been too regular with the posts this week, I'm sorry.

As you may have heard, both the Cross children tested positive for Covid this week.  Mrs. Cross and I are testing regularly and continue to be negative (thank goodness).  Hopefully next week we'll all be up and running as per usual.

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 and 2 -we'll do a little desk clean out (to get ready for our desk swap on Monday).  We're going to do some 'shared reading' about the International Day of Dance.  We'll also start a new read aloud, A Boy Called Bat.  Then the rest of the time will be used for 'reader's/writer's workshop'.  Student choice.  I'll be conferencing with each student about 'peers' they'd like to work with for next year (to help facilitate class building).

Period 3 and 4 is a tasty mask break, followed by math.  We'll continue the work Ms. Findley did yesterday with mixed numbers, and we'll look at how they relate to improper fractions.  There is a worksheet they'll do as well.

Period 5 is Mr. Butt for library/technology.

Period 6 I'm hoping we can end the week strong with round 2 (and possibly round 3) of our Connect 4 tournament.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Wednesday April 27th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 we'll start our new read aloud.  Then it will be reader's/writer's theatre.  We'll continue to work on 'fluency' using reader's theatres scripts from this website: http://www.thebestclass.org/rtscripts.html

Period 2 is French.

Period 3 and 4 after a mask break we'll use the chromebooks to practise the EQAO sample tests independently, getting used to all the tools. Any extra time we have we'll use to play more fraction games on Google Classroom.

Period 5 we'll have a mask break. Then we'll continue on with social studies. We'll listen to Buffalo Bird Girl, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cNhUrTA09nc.  Then they'll work in small groups or on their own to answer some questions based on the book.

Period 6 we'll use to hopefully finish 'round 2' of our Connect 4 tournament.

**GRADE 3 -Swim to Survive permission form coming home today.  Please sign and return by May 3rd!**

Friday April 22nd

 It's Friday...and sunny...yes!!!!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1/2 -it's reader's/writer's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on changing the voice of our writing from first to second person...for a 'fresh' perspective...

Period 3/4 we'll do math after a mask break (with the other Grade 3 classes).  For math, we'll be looking around the room for a fraction scavenger hunt that I've set up.  If there is time after that we'll create our own fractions using materials around the room (e.g., 3 yellow lego bricks, and 1 white show 3/4).

Period 5 is Mr. Butt for library/tech.

Period 6 is going to be round 1 of our connect 4 tournament...should be exciting!

Have a great weekend everyone, remember, Monday is a PA day (no school for kids).

Thursday April 22nd

ugh....rainy (most likely indoor recess) day!

Here is the plan for the day:

Period 1 Ms. McHaffie is in my class paying back a missed prep, and she and the class have decided to do some art...which I'm sure will be more amazing than anything I could come up with!

Period 2 I'm thinking we will do 'reader's/writer's' workshop-with a mini lesson on looking for verbs that tell us tense...however, there is a good chance Ms. McHaffie's art may run into this period???  We shall say.

Period 3/4 -is Math /Finish Up

In math we'll be looking at comparing and ordering fractions with same denominators...

https://www.superteacherworksheets.com/fractions/comparing-fractions-like-denominators_HHAYS.pdf

https://www.k5learning.com/worksheets/math/grade-3-comparing-fractions-like-denominators-a.pdf

After we're done our fraction work, we'll use the rest of the time to finish any of our outstanding work (plastercine art, McHaffie art, math work)

Period 5 is Music with Mrs. Haynes

Period 6 is Gym...we'll try to play the 'sink the ship' game we played last week that was a lot of fun.

 OK...so it's Wednesday...but it's a Monday schedule...last switch day this week!  Phew.

Here is the plan:

Period 3 and 4 is mask break/art...we'll be doing some Barbara Reid Plastercine inspired art.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JYWqT7bRa1I

Period 5 is math.  We'll continue with our fraction work from yesterday playing 'I Have, Who Has' and the math work from yesterday we never got to.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We're going to do an 'I Have, Who Has' game all to do with fractions.  Then I have some 'easy' work where the kids name and draw fractions.

Here is what we did today:

Period 1 we did some fun riddles for Red light.  Then we did reader's workshop.

Period 2 was French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3/4 was mask break/EQAO discussion/math.  After our Mask Break we talked about EQAO and went through one of the 'math' sections from the EQAO website, sample test.  After, I introduced the concept of Fractions.  We watched this video and did some questions on Math Prodigy.

https://www.khanacademy.org/math/cc-third-grade-math/imp-fractions/imp-fractions-intro/v/fraction-basics

Period 5 was writer's workshop.  We continued working on our newspaper articles.

Period 6 was social studies and we discussed life in the 1800's.  I had a few discussion questions posted on the Smartboard and we talked as a class what we thought life was like way back then.

Period 5 is Writer's workshop.  As our 'Fake Newspaper' is starting to take shape, more and more kids are interested in having their articles 'published'.  We'll continue working on answering the 5 W's and using 3rd person to write our fake news.  I'm hoping to send out the 'fake news' on Thursday (before the long weekend).

Period 6 is gym.  If we stay inside, we'll play a fun new game called 'sink the ship'...but if it's nice, we may vote to go outside instead...
