Tuesday January 31st

 Last day of January!  Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 -Read aloud, reader's workshop.  Our mini-lesson will focus on paying attention to ending punctuation, to help us know how to read fluently.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll continue on with paragraph writing.  Using the 'hamburger' graphic organizer.  The kids will pick their own topics today.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  If it's not too cold outside, we'll stay for a bit.  After that we'll come in. I have 2 Blooket's planned (all about multiplication and arrays).  I am also posting a 'multiplication puzzle' on google classroom that they'll try to solve.

Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.  

Period 6 is science....we'll talk about ways to make materials stronger (folding paper, twisting etc...).  Then the class will see if they can make paper bridges that are strong enough to hold a load of snap cubes.

Monday January 30th

 Here is the plan for today...which is a 'Friday' schedule

Period 1-Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 -Reader's workshop-mini lesson will focus on reading in phrases

Period 3/4-we'll stay outside for a little bit then come in and do some math.  We're going to play a multiplication array game...if there is any time left over, maybe we'll play some prodigy.

Period 5 we'll come in for 'writer's workshop', we're going to continue on working on paragraphs.

Period 6 we'll be a finish up/free time (if you've finished all your work)....

Thursday January 26th

 Well...Mrs. Cross and my children are all home...safe, warm and enjoying the HWDSB's snow day!  Boo!

I'm going to change the plans a little as the 'schools open/no busses' always means a significant dip in attendance.  

Period 1 and 2 we'll make 'Reader's/Writer's workshop', student choice.

Period 3 we'll stay outside for some fun play time.

Period 4 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 we'll watch some sort of movie in our PJ's and maybe talk to our friend Rhowyn, who is going to try and video call us from the Cayman Islands (where I hope it is currently snowing).

Remember, tomorrow is a PD day...no school!

Wednesday January 25th

 Happy snowy day...

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is reader's workshop, we'll continue to work on fluency....we'll talk about 'making the bumpy sound smooth'.  

Period 2 I'll be getting paid back for a missing prep, so Mrs. Duque will continue to work on paragraphs with the 3's.

Period 3 is French with Mrs. O'Neil.

Period 4 we'll finish up our 'array math' from yesterday and answer some question (20) on prodigy. 

Period 5 we have buddies...we'll help our Grade 1/2 friends make safety posters on google drawing.

Period 6 we'll do a quick book exchange and then finish up any unfinished work.

*Note - if you're hoping for a snow day tomorrow...you must sleep with your pj's inside out, put ice cubes in the toilet and make sure there is a spoon underneath your pillow.  

**Note - if you're busy vacationing in the Cayman Islands, you better still do the above!

Tuesday January 24th

 Here is the plan for today.

Then we'll do reader's workshop.  We'll work on fluency when reading 'non-fiction'.  

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll begin work on what a paragraph is exactly.

Period 3 and 4 we'll stay outside with the rest of the Grade 3's for a bit.   When we come inside, we'll look at visual representations of our times tables (called arrays) and we'll do some work on Google Classroom.

Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 we'll do the science from yesterday (hopefully) that we never actually got around to...looking at materials and stability.

Monday January 23rd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 we'll finish up our OP blob shading art for redlight.  Then we'll read aloud I Want To Go Home.  Then it will be weekend round up.

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop.  I'll do a fun MadLib with them first.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll play outside in the snow for a bit before we come in and 'finish' the times tables...we're looking at our 3's and 6's...and 7's (sort of...by nature of learning everything else, we'll have 7's covered, except 7X7=49).  https://www.timestables.com/

Friday January 20th

 Here is the plan for today!

Period 1 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 is Reader's workshop - mini lesson focuses on fluency...and reading non-fiction, like you know it!

Period 3 we'll stay outside for a short bit (I'm anticipating blacktop recess...so we can run around on the blacktop after everyone else goes inside).  Then Mrs. Alvarez is coming in to help with some Poetry.  We'll be looking at Haiku's.  

Period 4 I'm hoping to keep the fun times rolling, by introducing the kids to the game Boggle.  We'll play a few rounds as a class...just to get used to the rules. 

Period 5 We'll stay outside for a bit, then come in and do an ESTI-mystery.  After that we'll look at the 9 times tables...I'll teach them all the tricks I know how.

Period 6 we'll cruise into the weekend hopefully finishing up any unfinished work and hopefully have a bit of free time.

Thursday January 19th

Period 1 we worked on our OP-blob art until our Professor Jamz assembly.  Then we had the assembly.

Period 2 we came back from the assembly and spent the rest of the time reading, writing or finishing art.

Period 3 we stayed outside for a little bit, then came inside and worked on our 5's and 10's times tables (easy) and did this work:

Period 4 is health with Mr. DeStephanis.

Period 5 and 6 is Art...we're going to look at sketching and shading 3D figures.  A nice calming way to end the day.

Wednesday January 18th

 I apologize for not being here yesterday...Hoping I'm here the rest of the week. 

Period 1 and 2 is reader's/writer's workshop.  I'm hoping to show the kids how to use google drawing, to help us with our buddies period 5.

Period 3 is french with Ms. O'Neil.

Period 4 is Math.  We'll work on making our own times tables of the numbers we've covered so far...2's,4's and 8's.  

Period 5 is buddies with Mrs. Evers class.

Period 6 is book exchange and finish up.

Monday January 16th

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 was read aloud, and weekend round up.  

Period 2 was reader's/writer's workshop...student choice.

Period 3 and 4, after we played outside for a little extra time, we came in and did some math.   We started multiplication today.  We mostly talked about how multiplication is just repeated addition.  Today we looked at the 2 times tables (which is just knowing our 'doubles').  We also covered the 4's times tables...which we just doubled the 2 strategy (e.g., 4 x 6 ....think 2 x 6 =12...then double the 12, so 4 x 6 = 24).

Period 5 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 was supposed to be science...but I think I'll switch it to Math...keep going with the 2's and 4's multiplication.  

Friday January 13th

 I was away again yesterday with my son...ugh!

Back today (Mrs. Cross is at home).  

Period 1-Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 -Reader's/Writer's workshop -student choice 

Period 3 and 4 we'll stay outside for a little extra, then come in and do some more work with 3D shapes.  Specifically how 'nets' fold into 3D shapes.

Period 5 and 6 we'll spend finishing up any unfinished work and hopefully coast into the weekend.

January 11th

 I apologize for no blog yesterday...My son was home ill.

Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 -reader's workshop...we'll look at vowels that go together ( "ou") and how they help us to read.

Period 2 -writer's workshop...we'll look at touring our home to find stories.

Period 3 is French with Madam O'Neil.

Period 4 is Math we'll look at finding shapes (2D and 3D) in our lives.  

Period 5 is reading buddies...we'll review some of the highlights from last year, and websites we liked.

Period 6 is book exchange in the library and finish up and unfinished work.

January 9th 2023!

 Welcome back...happy New Year!

We'll ease our way back into school...I'm sure we will all be a little out of the routine today (myself included).

Period 1 and 2 we'll do a desk swap for January.  We'll do an extended Weekend Round Up.  We'll start a new read aloud called The Homework Machine.  The rest of period 2 they'll have to do reader's/writer's workshop.  Student choice.  

Period 3 and 4 we'll stay outside for a little extra time.  We'll come in and do some math.  Looking at pyramids and prisms, edges, faces and vertices.  I have some work for them to do, then I've assigned 12 questions on Prodigy.

Period 5 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 I will leave open for finish up/free time.
