Thursday November 30th

 Last day of November...that's insane!

Here is the plan today:

Period 1 -Reader's workshop- I'm hoping everyone who didn't finish the first step of our coding from yesterday can finish up.

Period 2 is writer's workshop - We'll focus on 'matching the right writer's voice to the right purpose.

Period 3 is Gym with Mr. D

Period 4 is Math- we'll begin work on 3D solids....naming and identifying them all.

Period 5 is buddies with Mrs. Ever's class -we'll finish our interviews and continue searching the hidden pictures. 

Period 6 is a finish up period...we have math, coding and some language to finish up on.

Wednesday November 29th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -reader's workshop: Mini lesson will focus on breaking words apart and putting them back together again.

Period 2 is writer's workshop:  Mini lesson will continue to focus on removing 'trash' details from our writing.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll finish up the symmetry and quadrilateral work from yesterday.  We'll do some questions on prodigy and I'll show them some fun symmetry websites.

Period 5 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll dig a little deeper into coding and begin work on 'coding an interactive book cover'.  It's an intense course, but I think we'll have some fun with it.

Tuesday November 28th

 Here is the plan for this cold Tuesday.

Period 1 -Reader's workshop.  Mini lesson will focus on 'flexible sounds', we'll talk about how vowels make both long and short sounds and how we should try both figure out words.

Period 2 -writer's workshop.  Mini lesson will focus on 'trash or treasure' details.  We'll discuss which details about T-Rex's are trash or treasure...and focus only the most important/interesting details in our writing.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll finish up 2D shapes today looking at 'symmetry' and the different types of quadrilaterals.  We'll play these games and do some work to consolidate our learning.

Monday November 27th

 I can't believe it's the last week of November!

Here is the plan for toay:

Period 1 -Red light (set game), Read aloud, Weekend Round Up.

Period 2 -student choice -reader's writer's workshop.

Period 3 we'll look a little closer at 2D shapes...specifically the difference between similar and congruent.

Thursday November 23rd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 and 2 is reader's/writer's workshop - student choice (treating today like a Friday).  We also have to do our book fair shopping first period.

Period 3 is gym with Mr. D...hopefully they can get to the church for gym class...dependent on whether the path is accessible or not.

Period 4 is math.  We'll review 2D shapes and look at 3D shapes.

Period 5 is computer buddies with Mrs. Ever's class.  We'll be interviewing our buddies to get to know them a little better.

Period 6 we'll cruise into the long weekend (and my long night) with a little free time.  



Reminder - Tomorrow is a PD day (no school for kids)

Wednesday November 22nd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Read aloud, reader's workshop.  Mini lesson will be about 'running into a the first part of a word' to help us solve.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll work on choosing topics to write about.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll review the names of 2D shapes and their attributes (e.g., a square has 4 sides and 4 vertices).  I have an assignment on google classroom as well as a blooket planned.

Period 5 is Music/Drama with Mrs. Haynes.  

Period 6 is Science.  We'll look at our levitating magnets STEM challenge...check out what some of us have done so far: levitating magnets.  If there's time we'll look at Friction...what it is and how it affects us.

Tuesday November 21st

 Here is the plan for today:


Period 1 is our turn to tour the book fair and make our wish lists (we shop on Thursday)

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop.  We'll continue on with our 'main idea' paragraphs.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  I'm hoping to do a 'time scavenger hunt' around the school.  Any extra time we have we'll jump on to knowledgehook or prodigy.

Period 5 we'll continue our 'STEM' magnet challenge from yesterday.

Period 6 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Monday November 20th

 Happy Monday!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 weekend round up, read aloud and finish up our progress report reflections.

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop.  I'm hoping to finish working on our paragraphs from last week and give the students the rest of the time to read or write.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  I've got a worksheet and a 'I Have, Who Has' activity to do.  I'm hoping to jump onto Knowledgehook too today to practise our time skills.

Period 5 is French with Mme. O'Neil.

Period 6 we'll try our luck at building our own 'levitation device' for a STEM challenge.

Friday November 17th

 Happy Friday!

Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 -We'll finish up the students self-reflection on their learning skills and hopefully start our next read aloud, The Nose From Jupiter.

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop -The students will get the chance to work with a partner, or use the computers to read on epic or play English prodigy.  

Period 3 is math....since it was so nice out yesterday, we never actually got to math.  So we'll continue to look at telling the time on an analogue clock.  

Period 4 is Mr. D for gym.

Period 5 and 6 we'll be doing art...working on blending chalk and oil pastels.

Thursday November 16th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -reader's workshop - we'll work on our learning skills reflection sheets first thing.  Then we'll have some independent reading time.

Period 2 is writer's workshop - in an attempt to move away from comics and try to focus on writing a bit more, we'll try using word webs to help us write down ideas...and focus on writing about a 'main idea'.  

Period 3 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 4 is math.  We'll continue to work on telling time and we'll play a game of 'I Have, Who Has...'.

Period 5 we have our computer buddies.  We'll play Interland for the last time with our buddies....really focussing on 'reading' some of the internet safety rules...not just clicking buttons.

Period 6 we'll do our book exchange and hopefully enjoy a little free time.

Wednesday November 15th

 I'm back!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Reader's workshop.  We'll look at letters that go together, diagraphs and blends. 

Period 2 -writer's workshop.  We'll look at proper letter formation in our handwriting books.

Period 3 and 4 is math. We'll practise reading and telling time.  Hopefully after the work we'll be able to practise on Math prodigy.  We'll be doing this sort of work:

Monday November 13th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1- red light / weekend round up.

Period 2 - reader's/writer's workshop - student choice.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We're going to start our next unit on 'time'.  We'll start with looking at the calendar...days, months and year.  We'll do some work then practise on prodigy.

Period 5 is French with Mme. O'Neil.

Period 6 we'll look at the force of magnetism in Science

Friday November 10th

 Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 is reserved for some Remembrance Day learning.  We'll talk about Remembrance day, why we celebrate it, it's history and why we wear poppies.  

Period 2 is Reader's/writer's workshop - students may with with a friend on Friday to read or write.

Period 3 We'll try our hand at some oil pastel poppy art.

Period 4 is Gym with Mr. D

Period 5 and 6 we'll watch the movie, The Tale of Despereaux to complete the book we just finished...maybe continue working on our art if we're not finished.

Thursday November 9th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -reader's workshop and we'll finish Tale of Despereaux.  Our mini lesson will be looking at Diagraphs and Blends to help us solve words.

Period 2 Mrs. Haynes is going to take them for an extra period to practice their plays in drama while I go to an in-school meeting.

Period 3 is normally health with Mr. D, but we have our special author visit with Melanie Florence: https://www.melanieflorence.com/my-story

Period 4 we'll look at pattern rules and finish up our unit on patterning. 

Period 5 we have our buddies...we'll play Interland (internet safety) one last time with the task of the buddies coming up with a comic about being kind online.

Period 6 we'll do book exchange and hopefully work on our coding the oceans for a bit.

Wednesday November 8th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 reader's workshop - mini lesson focuses on using what we know about words to help us solve unfamiliar words.

Period 2 writer's workshop - Comic's have invaded our 'writing time'...but there is very little writing happening in many of the comics.  So we'll go over how to 'write' and do comics (I don't want to squash their 'writing enthusiasm' but I need a little more writing.)

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll looks specifically at 'pattern rules' and how to use them to create patterns.  I have a couple of worksheets for them to practise and show their knowledge of patterns and pattern rules.

Period 5 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll either work on proper letter formation and hopefully have some time to practise coding AI to clean up the ocean on code.org.

Tuesday November 7th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -reader's workshop - mini lesson -juggling 3 balls when reading (seeing, hearing, thinking).

Period 2 -writer' workshop -mini lesson - thinking of an object, writing everything you can think about it.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll do some more work with patterning and using a table of values to figure out what's happening.  Hopefully some prodigy time afterwords.

Period 5 is coding.  We'll look at using 'AI' to build a game that focuses on cleaning the oceans.

Period 6 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Monday November 6th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -red light, read aloud, weekend round up and a 'lock down' drill practice.  

Period 2 -whatever is left of period 2 will be reader's/writer's workhshop -student choice. 

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll look at using a table of values to help us figure out patterns.  We'll do some partner work where we look at several different tables and try decide which 'pattern rule' belongs to each table.  Then there is a worksheet for them to do on their own.

Period 5 is French with Mme. O'Neil.

Period 6 I want to have the kids log on to blooket (to have some fun and do a quiz about some of the read alouds we've read and a quiz about Canadian Money.

Friday November 3rd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 and 2 is reader's/writer's workshop.  Today is the day the kids can choose to read or write with a partner.  I do want to do a quick 'verb' activity with the whole class before they start.

Period 3 we'll talk very briefly about growing and shrinking patterns and then I hope to start the BFG movie.  

Period 4 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 we'll finish watching the BFG and discuss the differences between the 2 movies and the book.

Thursday November 2nd

 Here is the plan for today:


Period 1 -Reader's workshop - we'll do yesterday's lesson about how reading is really a juggling act (eyes, ears and brain).

Period 2 is Writer's workshop- using your senses to help you write.

Period 3 is math.  We'll look at both growing and shrinking patterns.

Period 4 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 5 is buddies with Mrs. Evers' class.  We'll show them the games we created on code.org.  Then play Interland with them to go over 'internet safety'.

Period 6 is library book exchange.

Wednesday November 1st

 ugh...the day after Halloween...very scary.  Late nights, lots of junk food = ready to learn!  Wish me luck (and I'm feeling under the weather).

Here is the 'plan' for today.  We may have to adapt on the fly.  I've also changed the desks around (1st of the month)

Period 1 -reader's workshop - we'll talk about how reading is really a juggling act between what we see, hear, and think (then I wow them by actually juggling).

Period 2 is writer's workshop -the mini lesson is all about using our senses to help us write.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll begin our next unit on Patterning.  We will talk about what exactly a pattern is, and do a worksheet about changing attributes (e.g., shape, size, direction). I'm hoping if it's nice outside maybe we can spend some time out there.

Period 5 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 I'm going to leave open for 'free time' maybe watch an episode of Wayside and solve some rubik's cubes?
