Thursday April 3rd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud and reader's workshop, mini lesson focusing on Author's message.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop -we'll be looking at varying the start of sentences.

Period 3 is Social Studies for the Grade 2's (Raspopov/Smeaton) and the Grade 3's will stay here to practice their cursive letter 'e'.

Period 4 we'll go outside maybe for a bit to enjoy this weather.  When we come in we'll practice using google drawing to make our own mazes.

Period 5 is buddies.  We'll be exploring making and completing mazes today.

Period 6 is Gym with Mr. D.

Wednesday April 2nd

 Here is the plan for today-

Period 1- Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop- focus on asking good questions, before, during and after reading.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - we'll be using the SWBST (somebody, wanted, but, so, then) organizer to help us write stories.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll do some division worksheets period 3 and use knowledgehook period 4 to consolidate our division skills period 4.

Period 5 is health with Mr. D.

Period 6 I've decided with the inevitable indoor recesses to pull the plug on guitar today (sorry Mr. Bates!).  We'll use Period 6 as a finish up period

Tuesday April 1st

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, Desk Swap, April Fools Quiz and read aloud.

Period 2 -French

Period 3 -we'll spend some time outside (before tomorrow's rain) and come back in for some more division work.

Period 4 -when we're done our division work on paper, we'll use the computer to do some more division work.

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's are off to Smeaton/Raspopov for some social studies... Grade 3's will stick around for some more cursive practice...it's going slow, but they're having fun.  We'll also begin to look at some EQAO-type questions.

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, weekend round up.

Period 2 - Reader's/Writer's workshop - we'll focus on retelling the important details.

Period 3 -Music -Haynes

Period 4 -Math - We have a common math task we have to work on (for our PD day).

Period 5 -Math - We'll do some more division work...sorting things into equal groups.

Period 6- Library/book exchange

Here is the day:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, phonics lesson (long O...finally).  

Period 2 -chromebooks to do some inferencing work on english prodigy.

Period 3 -music Mrs. Haynes.

Period 4 -Math -more division work.

Period 5 and 6 is art...hopefully the rainy day colour resist watercolour from last Friday...seems more appropriate today!

Thursday March 27th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop - lesson focusing on summarizing using the acronym (SWBST - Somebody, wanted, but, so, then).

Period 2 is writer's workshop - continuing to focus on 'strong endings'.  The kids will rewrite some boring ones that I came up with.

Period 3 Grade 2's to Raspopov/Smeaton - Grade 3's to stay here to hear the final few pamphlet presentations, and to practice their cursive...last week I planned to get through 7 letters, we got through one.  It's hard work, but fun!

Period 4 is math.  We'll continue looking at division and how it just really means equal groups.

Period 5 is computer buddies.  Hopefully we can present our silly 'would you rather' slideshows and have some fun.

Period 6 is gym with Mr. D.

Wednesday March 26th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and reader's workshop...we'll focus on 'focusing on important details'.  Hopefully get the phonics lesson in from yesterday too!

Period 2 is writer's workshop - we'll focus on strong endings to our stories.

Period 3 we're headed to Mr. Butt's class to try out his cardboard arcade.

Period 4 is math...more division...

Period 5 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 6 is Guitars!  Hopefully learning the E major chord...'Wild Thing' by the Troggs is inbound!

Tuesday March 25th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, phonics lesson all about the long O sound.  

Period 2 - French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is Math.  We will continue to look at division, and how it's related to multiplication (e.g., if you know 3 x 5 = 15, then you know 15 / 3 = 5...fact families).

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's are off to Raspopov/Smeaton for some social studies...I think they're starting their dioramas.  Grade 3's are staying here and will hopefully finish their pamphlets and their spinning tops...and maybe even learn some cursive!

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, weekend round up

Period 2 -I quick writing activity about making our writing a little more 'juicy', then they can read or write with a friend.

Period 3 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 4 I hope to introduce the concept of division and equal groups.  We'll look at how division relates to multiplication.  I have a couple of worksheets for them to try.

Period 5 we have the chromebooks booked, so we'll answer some division questions on math prodigy.   

Period 6 we have library/book exchange/free time.

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Mr. D has my class covered.

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop - we'll talk a little bit about inferring.  

Period 3 is social studies for the Grade 2's and finish our spinning tops for Grade 3's.

Period 4 is math. We'll continue on with our 'multiplication centres'.

Period 5 is computer buddies.  Today we'll work on a would you rather slideshow.

Period 6 is Gym with Mr. D again.

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop, focusing on fluency.

Period 2 writer's workshop- focus on adding expression to writing with dialogue and punctuation.

Period 3 and 4 is Math we'll continue on with Multiplication practice.  We learned multiplication war yesterday, today I'll teach them a new game and we'll continue building fluency and confidence with our times tables.  We will also get outside at some point to enjoy this beautiful weather.

Period 5 is health with Mr. D.

Period 6 is a finish up period/free time

Tuesday March 18th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, Phonic's lesson on vowel teams that make the 'E' sound.

Period 2 -French.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We're going to rotate through a some 'multiplication centres'.  We'll probably continue to work on multiplication this whole week, and begin division next week.

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's to Raspopov/Smeaton for Social Studies, and the Grade 3's stay here to finish building and testing their spinning tops, and to hopefully finish their city pamphlets.

 Welcome back!  It sounded like most people had a fun/relaxing break.

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud (New book, The Nose From Jupiter) and weekend round up.

Period 2 -Reader's/Writer's workshop -student choice.

Period 3 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 4 we'll go outside for a bit.  When we come back in we'll play some multiplication games.

Period 5 we have the chromebooks, I've posted some multiplication questions on Math Prodigy.

Period 6 we'll head to the library for book exchange.  After that, we'll enjoy a bit of free time.

 Happy March Break everyone...be safe!

Here is today's plan:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and we'll play a class blooket on the Secret of NIMH.

Period 2 the kids will do some work on Antonyms and Synonyms on the computers.

Period 3 we'll do a little math...I'll teach them 'Multiplication War'...a game you can play at home with a deck of cards.

Period 4 is Music with Mrs Haynes.

Period 5 we'll stay outside and enjoy the sunshine. 

Period 6 we'll watch 'Timmy to the Rescue...secret of NIMH part 2!

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1-Red light, reader's workshop - mini lesson focusing on making predictions.

Period 2-Writer's workshop - we'll do a quick spelling activity and hopefully finish our 'their, there and they're' stories.

Period 3 -Grade 2's to Smeaton/Raspopov - Grade 3's to stay here...finish building and testing their tops.  Maybe even start some cursive?  If we have time.

Period 4 - Math.  We'll do all sorts of multiplication activities...including making our own multiplication chart and flash cards and playing multiplication war. 

Period 5 is buddies.  Hopefully we can share some 'Day at the Zoo' slideshows...and maybe even get some free time in there?

Period 6 is gym with Mr. D.

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, Squiggly Story.

Period 2 - French -Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll look at the few times tables we have left and do some work on them.

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's to Smeaton/Raspopov.  Grade 3's stay here to work on: city research...if we can find chromebooks, our STEM spinning tops(if we can't), and/or some cursive writing practice.

Friday February 28th

 Here is how today is supposed to go:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, Reader's workshop - we continued to work on visualization.  I read short passages and they sketched what they saw.

Period 2 was Student choice - lots of different games going on.

Period 3 we stayed outside for a bit, then came in and worked a little bit on our 9's times tables a bit more.

Period 4 is music.

Period 5 and 6 is Secret of NIMH movie and popcorn!

 Sorry I missed yesterdays post...I had to leave early for a workshop.

Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, finish up some math (5's and 10s times tables).

Period 2 - I'm hoping we can finish up our funny fairy tales using there, their and they're.

Period 3 -Science / Social studies.  Grade 2's to Raspopov/Smeaton.  Grade 3's will stay here and work on their spinning tops.

Period 4 is Math.  We'll work on our 9 times tables...lots of tricks for this one.  

Period 5 is buddies with Mrs. Ever's class.  We'll continue to work on our 'Day at the Zoo' slideshows. 

Period 6 is supposed to be gym, but I think Mr. D is away...so we might enjoy a little free time.

Period 3 -We'll learn all about the 5's and 10's times tables...they're easy ones!

Period 4-we'll use that knowledge to answer some questions on Math Prodigy.

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's are off to Raspopov and Smeaton, the Grade 3's will stay put, and work on both their 'city research' and 'spinning top/STEM' activities.

 Sorry to all my faithful reader (that's right, singular, because I am not entirely sure anyone reads this)!

I forgot my phone the other day, and consequently,  I've been locked out of everything...I need face ID to get into everything! 

I'm back now...with my phone in hand.  

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 Red light, read aloud, reader's/writer's workshop...student choice.

Period 2 we'll use the chromebooks and will explore Gmail, and proper email/digital etiquette.  We'll practice writing kindness emails to partners in the class.  

Period 3 is math.  We'll for fun, learn the 8 time table (even though we don't need to...but we'll just double our 4's) and we'll create our own 8 times table board games.

Period 4 is Music with Mrs. Haynes. 

Period 5 and 6 is art...we'll be designing our own hearts with warm and cool colours....Hopefully they'll look something like this:

Tuesday February 18th

 What a wild break....the snow day, Pd day, weekend and family day....5 days off!

When we come back, Valentines, Report Cards and Pancake day!  Wild and exciting....

Here is the plan...

Period 1 -Red light, Valentines hand out and pancakes.

Period 2 I tried to read to the class but they were far too interested in their Valentines to listen. 

Period 3 is Math...we might go outside for a little to play...we'll see what the temperature is like. But math we will continue to look at Arrays.

Period 4 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 we're going to play a mystery student game....try to build some more community.

Period 6 is free time!

Wednesday February 12th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, Reader's workshop - a powerful lesson on inferring...turns out we all can do it!

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll focus on 'showing not telling'.  I'll put them in pairs and have them rewrite boring sentences into something more vivid....example: I was scared.

→ My hands trembled, and my heart pounded like a drum. I held my breath as the shadow crept closer.

Period 3 we'll play outside for a little extra time, then we'll do some more 'Array' math work.  

Period 4 I have some paper work and computer work they can do on arrays.

Period 5 is health with Mr. D.

Period 6 we have Will and Jim coming in to help me out with guitar.  If everything goes according to plan, we'll learn the D chord today..

REMINDER....put your pj's on backwards, spoons under pillows and ice cubes in the toilet tonight...let's hope for a snow day!

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and the phonics lesson I missed yesterday (Long A sound)

Period 2 French - Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We're going to start multiplication soon.  Today we're just going to explore Arrays ..which are the visual representation of multiplication.  I've got some whole class, small group and independent work planned.

Period 5 we'll do some quick online art.

Period 6 is some unplugged mindfulness time!

Wednesday February 5th

 Happy Birthday Oliver!

Here is what we did today.

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud and the phonics lesson on R-controlled vowels I never got to yesterday.

Period 2 - We did some awesome writing.  We focused on small moments and really made them sing.

Period 3 we stayed outside and played most of the period.  

Period 4 we played a fun subtraction game called 'race to zero'.  Mr. Farnand came in and played too.  

Period 5 Mr. D had them for Health.

Period 6 Mr. Will Coutts, rockstar extraordinaire came in to help us with some guitar.  We actually started playing a simplified version of A Horse With No Name by America...not sounding too bad!

Period 1-Red light, Read aloud, phonics lesson on 'r-controlled vowels'. 

Period 2 is French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 is math.  We'll continue to look at the standard algorithm for subtraction. Specifically looking at borrowing across zeros. 

Period 4 we'll go outside for a bit and hopefully get some math prodigy time (more subtraction questions).

Period 5 and 6 is science/social studies.  Grade 2's to Raspopov/Smeaton,  Grade 3's stay here to work on their city pamphlets.

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, weekend round up, seat swap

Period 2 -reader's/writer's workshop - student choice, partners.

Period 3 -Music -Mrs. Haynes.

Period 4 -Math - we learned the standard algorithm for subtraction, we talked about BBBB (bigger bottom, better borrow)

Period 5 we stayed outside for a bit, then came in to finish presenting the last of our slideshows.

Period 6 we went to the library to finish all of our math questions online and to have some fun.

Period 1-Red light, read aloud and workshop lesson on finding the main idea in a reading passage.

Period 2 -I have some questions for them to answer about 'finding the main idea' then they can work with a partner to read or write...and hopefully finish presenting the last 3 CYOA slideshows.

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 and 2 -The Grade 2's are building boats with Captain's Smeaton & Raspopov.  Grade 3's are staying put.  We'll do some work on using quotation marks properly. Then, we'll continue working on our Ontario City pamphlets.

Period 3 and 4 is Math.  We'll work on using a number line to subtract.  I've got some work for them to do and some questions on prodigy as well.  Hopefully we'll get outside for a little bit.

Period 5 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 6 is Guitar with Mr. Hatch and Mr. Cross

 I hope everyone had a nice long weekend...missing quite a few kids today...maybe extra long weekends?

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, Weekend round up, and a bit of time to read or write with a friend

Period 2 -French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 -Just a quick check in to make sure everyone is okay with Addition....before we start subtraction!  Going to be teaching them similar strategies as addition...today we'll be working on the 'break apart...expanded form'  Subtraction Math Strategies Reference Charts.pdf.

Period 4 I have some work on paper and on the computer to reenforce the concepts covered.

Period 5 and 6 is Science for the Grade 2's in Raspopov/Smeaton's room.  Grade 3's are going to stay here and work on researching their Ontario City...

Period 2 -we have the chromebooks to work on either English prodigy, Epic books, or writing on Google Slides.

Period 3 is Science/Social studies.  Grade 2's to Smeaton/Raspopov...Grade 3's stay here to work on researching a city.

Period 4 is math.  We're going to do an addition scavenger hunt around the school.

Period 5 is computer buddies...we'll teach the kids in Mrs. Ever's class about subtraction and have some fun on Dojo Island

Period 6 is gym with Mr. D.

Wednesday January 22nd

 Here is what we did today:

Period 1 and 2-red light, read aloud, and we talked about conjunctions (and watched conjunction junction) and then we did some work making more complex fun sentences.  We had a few kids present their CYOA slideshows too .Schoolhouse Rock, conjunction junction -greatest song ever?

Period 3 and 4 we reviewed all our different addition strategies and did some work...we're really starting to get it...most kids are a fan of the Standard Algorithm. Addition Math Strategies.pdf

Period 5 they had gym at the church with Mr. D.

Period 6 Violet's dad, Jim, came in to help with our very first guitar lesson.  We sounded great.  I'm going home to eat some Tylenol now!

Tuesday January 21st

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, phonics lesson on /er/ and all the ways you can spell it.

Period 2 -French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is math .  We'll review compensation from yesterday and learn our last addition strategy -the standard algorithm.  We have some work to do and then hopefully answer some questions on math prodigy.

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's will head to Smeaton/Raspopov for Science.  The Grade 3's will stay here and we'll finish our indigenous architecture slideshows.  If time permits, we'll revisit the landform in Ontario.  Hopefully starting work on making a pamphlet for a city of our choosing.  

Monday January 20th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, Weekend Round Up.

Period 2 -was reader's/writer's workshop.  Student choice...some of the kids continued to work on their slideshows.

Period 3 was Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 4 was math -we learned about addition using compensation (e.g., 29 + 15 is like 30 + 14 ...which i s easier to solve....compensation, add 1 to 29 subtract 1 from 15).

Period 5 we worked some more on solving addition questions using compensation on Blooket.  

Period 6 is Library book exchange / finish up slideshows....

Period 2- I'm hoping the last period to work on our CYOA slideshows.

Period 3 is math. I have some regrouping/baseten block worksheets to do...I'm hoping maybe to teach them the next strategy, called compensation..

Period 4 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 and 6 we'll stay outside for a bit before we come inside and do some art....today we'll be looking at perspective, and we'll draw a snow-person huddle.

Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, reader's/writer's workshop...and maybe a presentation or two?
Period 2 -2nd last period to work on our CYOA slideshows (I would ideally like to finish them this week).
Period 3 -Science/Social Studies - Grade 2's to Raspopov/Smeaton, Grade 3's to finish work on their indigenous architecture slideshows.  
Period 4 -Math -We'll finally play the game 'race to 100/flat' in partners (we played as a whole class yesterday)...continuing to work on regrouping (trading in 10 ones for 1 ten).
Period 5 -Computer buddies...more digital art today.
Period 6 -Mr. D for gym!

Wednesday January 15th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and we started presenting our choose your own adventures.

Period 2 -we'll have the chromebooks to finish up our choose your own adventure, or work on bonus slideshows.

Period 3 and 4 we'll play the Race to 100 game from yesterday we didn't get to, and work more on regrouping base ten blocks (e.g., 12 ones is actually regrouped into 1 ten rod and 2 ones).  Any extra time we have at the end we'll do math prodigy questions.  Primary maths games: How to play Race to 100

Period 5 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 6 we'll play a game of silent seatball and some charades to have some fun.

Tuesday January 14th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, independent reading/writing.

Period 2 - French -Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is Math.  We're going to continue working on 'regrouping' with base ten blocks.  Similar to this:  Primary maths games: How to play Race to 100

I have some worksheets to do as well.  

We are also going to try a new math website called 'Knowledgehook'.  It's on google classroom.  

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's are heading to Smeaton/Raspopov and the Grade 3's will stay here continuing to work on their indigenous architecture slideshows.

Monday January 13th

 Welcome back to a snowy Monday...

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, Weekend Round Up, Squiggly Story.

Period 2 -continue working on Choose Your Own Adventure stories...

Period 3 -music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 4 - Math...next strategy is using base-ten blocks: Addition Math Strategies.pdf

Period 5 - We'll use the chromebooks to answer some base ten adding questions on Math prodigy.

Period 6 is Library / book exchange.

Friday January 10th

 Here is the plan for today.

Period 1-Red light, read aloud, reader's/writer's workshop...with a friend.

Period 2 -choose  your own adventure slideshows continued!

Period 3-we'll continue working on addition strategies:

Period 4 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.


Period 5 and 6 is art.  We'll do a little modified Metis dot art/pointillism...sort of like this:

Thursday January 9th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, and the phonics lesson from yesterday I didn't get to all about 'r-controlled vowels'...specifically the ar/ & or, ore/or.  There should be a bit of independent reading time before we get the chromebooks.

Period 2 -We will continue to work on our Choose Your Own Adventure stories on Google Classroom...integrating links into our Google Slides.

Period 3 -The Grade 2's are off to Raspopov/Smeaton for some Science fun.  Grade 3's will stay here and we'll dig a little deeper into First Nation Architecture.  I'm hoping we can find some time to research a specific First Nation dwelling and find out which group used it, how it was built, and what sort of forces are acting on it.

Period 4 is math.  We're continuing with addition strategies.  We've mastered the number line and 'expanded form' addition.  We'll be building off that working on adding in chunks (which is similar to number-line...just without the number-line).

Period 5 we have computer buddies.  We're going to work on our art skills with a couple of really fun 'digital art' websites. 

Period 6 they have Mr. D for gy.

Wednesday January 8th

 Here is what we did today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, and a lesson on creating links within Google Slides

Period 2 - We started work on our very own 'Choose Your Own Adventure' slideshows.  They are very excited about this.

Period 3 - we stayed outside for an extra 10 minutes...but then most of us got cold and came in.  We reviewed the 'number line' addition technique from yesterday and I taught them the 'break apart/expanded form' method today (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8zRe9BFXAAA).  The goal is to teach them several methods and let them pick the method they like best. 

Period 4 we did a worksheet and followed that up with some similar questions on Math Prodigy.

Period 5 was Health with Mr. D.

Period 6 we had 'old school' free time where the kids were unplugged and played board games or drew pictures with their friends.

Tuesday January 7th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, squiggly story.

Period 2 -French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 -Math - we'll look at doing addition using a number line, like this:

We have some work to do as well.

Period 4 we will reenforce those concepts on math prodigy.

Period 5 and 6 the Grade 2's will head to Smeaton/Raspopov for Science and the Grade 3's will stay here.  We'll look at Indigenous architecture (e.g., long houses, igloos, wigwams).  We'll discuss their construction techniques and what makes them strong and stable.  The kids will have a chance to construct their own Indigenous structures using materials around the class...

Monday January 6th 2025!!!

Welcome back.

It was so nice to see all the kids again.  I know this is amazing class because I actually missed them!

Here is the plan for today...we'll keep it light as we adjust to back to school.

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, Weekend round up and a desk swap!
Period 2 -Student choice, reader's/writer's workshop.

Period 3 is music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 4 we'll do a quick lesson on 'making 10'.  Our next math unit will be adding and subtracting numbers.  Then we'll head outside for a little extra outdoor time.

Period 5 we'll play a game I call 'battle-math'....where they roll dice and add up numbers.  After battle math, we'll answer some simple math questions on prodigy.
Period 6 we'll head to the library for book exchange, and maybe have a little free time (if we've finished our math).
