Friday December 17th

I just realized I didn't post my blog yesterday...sorry!  It's a little chaotic towards the end!  Both my readers I'm sure were devastated.  

Here we are, last post of 2021!  We made it...

We're going to do all sorts of cutting-edge teaching and learning today.  Hopefully, just maybe, squeeze in a little fun too.

I have no clue what January is going to look like, but I'm hopeful it will be in class at Glenview.  Fingers are crossed.

Until then, I want to wish you all a very safe and relaxing holiday!  I will see you in the New Year!

Wednesday December 15th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  We'll look at taking words apart and putting them back together to help us solve them (e.g., un-der-gr-ou-nd=underground)

Period 2 is French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is Math on the chromebooks.  We'll stay outside weather permitting for a bit, then come inside and answer some math prodigy questions.  If we have time, I'd like to do a 'game show' on knowledgehook (math website)

Period 5 and 6 we're going to hopefully star working on a little craft, maybe even put on a movie at the end of the day....

Tuesday December 14th

 Here is the 'plan' for today...'plan' being the operative word.  Lots of bouncy children.  

Period 1 is technology with Mr. Butt.

Period 2 is reader's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on 'looking for vowels that go together'...to help us solve words.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  After our mask break we'll do the math from yesterday that we didn't get to.  Looking at the parts of a bar graph and making bar graphs.

Period 5 is writer's workshop.  Mini lesson will focus on 'word mapping' (brainstorming to generate ideas). 

Period 6 we have the gym.  We'll play some more soccer games. 4 corner bench ball today.

Monday December 13th

 Last week of school...I'm not sure if it has flown by, or dragged on.  Depends which day you ask, I guess?

Period 1 and 2 we'll do this fun red light activity:

Thursday December 9th

 Here are the plans for today.

Period 1 is red light, read aloud and reader's workshop.  The mini lesson will focus on skipping words we don't know and coming back later.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  I imagine most kids will continue to work on writing letters to their friends (they're really excited about this...and I'm really excited that they're excited about writing).  The mini lesson will focus on mix and matching story elements (characters, plot, settings).

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll have a healthy mask break.  Then we'll begin work looking at horizontal and vertical pictographs.  

Period 5 they have Mrs. Haynes for music.

Period 6 we have the gym.  We'll play a new soccer game called '4 corner soccer'.  Should be chaotic, but fun!

Wednesday December 8th

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 is reader's workshop and we'll start reading our new read aloud - The One and Only Ivan.

Period 2 is French.

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a healthy mask break.  Then we'll come in do a little work on mean and mode.  We have the chrome books booked.  I've got questions set up on Math Prodigy and Knowledge hook.

Period 5 we're going to 'live stream' the Science of Ice put on by the Ontario Science Centre.

Period 6 we'll use as finish up/catch up period.  Hopefully we can finish the rest of the Tale of Desperaux movie.

Tuesday December 7th

 Yikes....I just found out we're short on supply teachers...so the plans are going to change.  I'll be adapting on the fly after I put together my room after the filming for yesterday's musical.

Period 1 was supposed to be library tech, with Mr. Butt, but it is no longer.

Period 2 is was going to be writer's workshop.  We're working on letters for National Letter Writing Day.  We'll be writing letters to our friends in Mrs. Benison's class.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We're going to look at collecting and organizing data a little more.  I'll introduce the concept of Mode and Mean (they'll use calculator's to figure out mean).

Period 5 is reader's workshop.  Hopefully we can read (and possibly respond) to Mrs. Benison's letters.

Period 6 is gym.  We'll play some more bench ball soccer.

Monday December 6th

 Happy Monday.

Period 1 is weekend round up and read aloud, we finished A Tale of Desperaux.

Period 2 is Reader's/Writer's workshop.  We worked on letter writing.

Period 3 and 4 we have art.  We're going to make Christmas Cards for seniors that live down the road at the old age home.

Period 5 we'll do some math, actually the math from Friday we didn't get to (collecting and organizing data)

Period 6 is music, I believe they're recording our part for the holiday concert.

Friday December 3rd

 Here is the plan for today!

Period 1 we're going to do a desk clean up, then we'll head to the gym for some games and hopefully a bit of basketball scrimmages.  

Period 2 we've got the chromebooks booked, and I've posted some 'how to' videos on Google classroom to help us decorate the room for our Holiday Concert video shoot on Monday.

Period 3 we'll have a mask break then do a partner activity trying to sort various jobs, and which landform region they belong to (e.g., airport security would be more appropriate 'great lakes/St. Lawerence lowlands job because there are lots of people and airports)

Thursday December 2nd

Period 1: Reader's workshop- mini lesson focuses on decoding multisyllabic words

Period 2: Writer's workshop - mini lesson focuses on "What if?".  We'll look at true stories we have and see what happens if we change just one element (e.g., character, setting or problem).

Period 3 and 4 we will begin our next unit in math on 'Data Literacy'. We're going to look at ways to sort and organize information.  Specifically, Venn Diagrams, Carroll diagrams and tree diagrams.

Wednesday December 1st

 We made it to December!  

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Surprise music class...Mrs. Haynes really needs to practise for our holiday concert, so we have music period 1 today.

Period 2 -Mr. Woolley for French.

Period 3 and 4 is mask break and chrome books.  We'll be starting our next math unit on 'data management' (collecting and organizing data, putting that information into graphs).  So all the questions on prodigy are aligned with that strand of math.  

Period 5 is reader's workshop.  Mini lesson is about 'running into a word' (trying to solve unfamiliar words by just 'going for it').

Period 6 is writer's workshop.  Mini lesson will focus on finding poems everywhere.  Yesterday we wrote poems about commonly heard phrases (e.g., Wake Up, you'll be late for school) and today we'll look at finding random objects (e.g., granola bar) and we will come up with some poems about those.  

Tuesday November 30th

Period 2 is Reader's workshop.  Mini lesson is about checking the beginning and the end of a word.

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 We will read a bit from the Tale of Desperaux.  Then we are going to attend a 'virtual' assembly about electrical safety.

Period 2 is French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 we will use the chrome-books (after a mask break) to log onto knowledge hook and do a few more class 'game shows' to practise our patterning skills.

Period 5 We'll do social studies.  We'll look at the 3 landform regions of Ontario (e.g., Great Lakes/St. Lawerence, Hudson Bay Lowlands and the Canadian Shield) and where they're located on a map.

Period 6 I'm going to leave open.  Hopefully finish up any 'unfinished work' and maybe enjoy a little free time.

Tuesday November 23rd

 Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 is Mr. Butt for technology.

Period 2 is reader's workshop.  Mini Lesson focus on 'using what you know' to solve words.  

Period 3 and 4 is math.  After a mask break we'll play a quick 2 person game on calculators.  Then we'll do the work from last Friday (that we didn't get to yesterday either).  

Period 5 is writer's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on "Getting Sparked by Setting".  

Period 5 is gym.  A little Ham, Chicken, Cheese and some basketball!

Period 1 we'll do a red light activity.  Then we'll share the highlights from our weekend (e.g., Weekend Round UP)

Period 2 is student choice reader's/writer's workshop.

Period 3/4 is art.  After a healthy mask break we'll begin working on some maps.  Designing our own cities.  We're going to start to familiarize ourselves with the parts of a map (e.g., legend). 

Period 5 is math...we'll do the work form Friday that we never got to.

Period 6 is music with Ms. Haynes.

Wow...I was so busy hammering out the google meet invites yesterday I completely forgot to post my daily blog.  My apologies.  I know both of my regular readers were probably worried.  Fear not, I'm here and ready to post.

Period 1- We'll do a patterning activity for 'RED light'.  Then we'll move into reader's/writer's workshop, student choice.  

Period 2- we will discuss our current knowledge of Ontario...gearing up for our social studies unit (living and working in Ontario).  We'll look at the 3 different landform regions in Ontario (Great Lakes/St. Lawerence lowlands, Hudson Bay lowlands and Canadian Shield).

Period 1 -reader's workshop - mini lesson focusing on 'making attempts that make sense'.

Period 2 -French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4- we are going to use the chormebooks to do a little 'self assessment work' on our learning skills.  After that we'll hopefully get some time to do some patterning questions on Prodigy.

Period 5 - is writer's workshop - we're going to do a fun joint writing exercise called 'alphabet antics'...we'll try to come up with lists using every letter of the alphabet (e.g., Foods A-Apples, B-banana's...). Something to try engage some of the more reluctant writer's.

Period 6 we'll watch a Bill Nye video on flowers and enjoy a little free time.

Tuesday November 16th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1-Mr. Butt for library/technology.

Period 2 -reader's workshop.  We will focus on 'Thinking while we read the read words'...going back when it doesn't make sense.

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a mask break.  Then we'll begin our next unit in Math on Patterning.  We'll do some work on the smart board then we'll do this work (you'll get a preview to see the kind of questions):

Parent Conferences

 Wow...this blog is going viral.  5 people checked last Friday's post!

I had a great question from a parent about the conferences next week.  "Are the kids supposed to be present?".

To both my regular 'followers', I thought I'd answer that question here:

Totally up to you!  The board's 'official' stance is that they are led by the student.  I have found from past experience (and my own children's interviews) sometimes it runs smoother without the student present.

I can appreciate both having the student there and not having the student there.  I will let you decide what works best for you and your family, I can adapt!  

Monday November 15th

 Happy Monday everyone.  

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 we are going to share highlights from our weekend and read some Tale of Desperaux.  We also check in with our stem experiment (pretty cool)

Period 2 is student choice to read or write.

Period 3 and 4 we are going to try our hand at a little pointillism (like Georges Seurat) for art.

Period 5 we'll use the computers to finish up our last bit of work on Money...I'm hoping to conference during this time.

Friday November 12th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 we'll do a brain teaser activity for RED light...then we'll going to switch things around and do a little Science experiment (celery in coloured water to observe the function of the stem). 

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop.  We'll talk about being responsible and making good learning choices as we work (with or without partners).

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a little mask break.  Then we'll do an ESTI mystery.  Then after that we'll do some work making change for $20, $50 and $100 dollars

Period 3 and 4 we are going to do a little art activities.  Using watercolours to make our own poppies.  

Period 5 is Drama and Dance with mrs. Haynes. 

Period 6 is Gym.  We'll play a little Ham, Chicken, Cheese and some basketball...hopefully!

Wednesday November 10th

 Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 we're going to have the Grade 6's come in and tell us about 'World Kindness Day.  Then we'll have a quick little discussion about 'fidget toys and Pokemon/Hockey Cards'...that are sort of taking over our classroom....and if all goes well, maybe even teach a little 'reader's workshop'.

Period 2 Mr. Woolley has them for French.

Tuesday November 9th

Period 1 -Mr. Butt for some technology.

Period 2- Mr. Cross for some reader's workshop.  We'll focus on using many different strategies to help us solve unfamiliar words.

Period 2 is Reader's/writer's workshop.  Student choice.  We'll talk about making good learning decisions and being good coaches to our partners.

Phew...I'm exhausted...TGIF.

Luckily I was able to swing by Giant Country on my way to school today and I picked up a bottle of 'Frobscottle'.  Today is going to be great....mostly because I'm still in my pyjamas.  

Period 1 we're going to do reader's/writer's workshop...student choice.

Period 2 we'll start our movie, The BFG and see how it compares to the book.

Period 3 and 4 we'll finish the movie (and enjoy our 'Frobscottle').  

Period 5 Mr. Butt has them for library/tech.

Period 6 we'll hold on to the chrome books and most likely play a little math prodigy!  

A perfect way to end the week.  Our good friend Esa has made it out of surgery and is now recovering.  I'm hoping throughout the day to get the kids to film a little message that we can send to him, wishing him a speedy recovery!

Good morning to all 3 parents who read this blog!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is reader's workshop...our mini lesson will focus on using words you know to help you solve unfamiliar words.

Period 2 is writer's workshop...our mini lesson will focus on using moments with strong feelings to help us generate ideas.

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a nice healthy mask break then keep banging out some math.  I managed to conference with everyone yesterday and almost everyone was able to count up money correctly, both bills and coins!  Awesome.  We'll do these sheets today...shouldn't be easy after what I saw yesterday:

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  Mini lesson focuses on going slow, to ensure comprehension. 

Period 2 is French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We're going to look at counting up change.  I have some work for them to do on Google Classroom....then they can play some of the 'money' games I posted on Classroom as well.

Period 5 is Writer's workshop...our mini lesson will focus on using important people to help us write.

Period 6 is probably going to be science.  I've got a great Bill Nye video that dives deep into flowers.  

Tuesday November 2nd

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1-Mr. Butt - Library/Tech.

Period 2- Reader's workshop -we have the Chromebooks...I've assigned books on Spark reading (the new 'raz kids' online reading program).  A parent has very graciously donated headphones to the class...we're going to try it all out!

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We're going to start financial literacy ($) today.  Just looking at some coins and bills...practising counting up money.

Sorry I wasn't here yesterday...I know all three of you were worried!

Period 2 was reader's/writer's workshop.  Students got to choose.  I worked with some of the kids that needed a little help with subtraction at the blue table.

Period 3 and 4 we had a nice little mask break then we watched Scooby Doo -Zombie Island.  Very Scary...(not really that scary).

Period 5 Mr. Butt has them for library/tech.

Period 6 we'll hold onto the computers and play some of the Scooby Doo games I've found that I posted on Google Classroom.

Wednesday October 27th

Finally...no rain!  

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 I had the kids attempt to solve a puzzle using Roman Numerals.  Then we had reader's workshop and we focused on trying to say engaged by using comprehension checks.

Period 2 is French with Mr. Woolley (actually Mr. Woolley this time)

Period 3 and 4 we'll stay out for a bit, get a mask break.  Then we'll come in.  We'll look at 3 digit subtraction with regrouping.  Then we'll jump on the chrome books and try our hand at some questions on Prodigy.

Period 5 is Writer's workshop.  We'll talk about making connections to our writing, even when we're away from our writer's notebook.  

Period 6 we're going to have a calm down/mindfulness period.  We're going to talk about some of the things we can do when we need to calm down.

Tuesday October 26th

Period 1: Library/Tech with Mr. Butt.

Period 2 is Writer's workshop.  We're just going to talk about organizing our writing and just plain writing!  Getting words on paper.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  I'd love to get outside for a mask break, weather permitting.  Then we'll continue to work on 2 digit subtraction with regrouping.  We'll do this work and if we finish, we'll play this game.

Period 5 is our 'virtual field trip' to the RBG...we're going to learn all about pumpkins and parts of the pumpkin.

Period 6 is Gym.  We'll play some co-operative games like Skittles with whatever remaining time we have after our 'field trip'.   

Monday October 25th

Period 3 and 4 is Art.  Tomorrow we have a 'virtual' field trip to the RBG.  We're going to learn all about pumpkins, so today's art is inspired by that!  We'll look at positive and negative space and attempt to make these pumpkins.

Friday October 22nd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 and 2 is literacy.  We'll do reader's/writer's workshop.  The kids will getting a chance to work in partners to read and write.  We'll try this outside.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll do an Esti Mystery.  Then we'll look at subtraction WITH regrouping.  I've got a scavenger hunt set up in the classroom.  We'll watch this video and do the work:

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on 'visualizing the text to help us focus'.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus just on getting something down on paper (getting black on white).

Period 3 and 4 is math. First we'll do an Esti Mystery.  Then I'm just introducing the concept of subtraction.  We're going to start off real slow...no regrouping today.

Wednesday October 20th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  We never got to the mini lesson from yesterday so we'll try again today.  Focusing on what 'engaged readers' look like.

Period 2 is French with...Ms. Wilson (rumour has it Mr. Woolley will be back next week)

Period 3 and 4 we have the chromebooks.  I've assigned some 3 digit addition questions on Math Prodigy.  

Period 5 is writer's workshop.  We'll focus on what to do when you're 'stuck'.  How to make a plan and move on.

Period 6 we'll look a little closer at photosynthesis and how plants use the sun.

Tuesday October 19th

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 -Mr. Butt them for computers/tech

Period 2 is Reader's Workshop -we'll talk what 'engaged readers' look like.

Period 3 and 4 is art.  We're going to collect some leaves and do some rubbings...

Period 5 is writer's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on using mentor texts (reading) to help inspire our writing.

Period 6 is gym.  If the gym is available I'd love to start teaching the class the basics of basketball...focusing on ball handling/dribbling today.

**Special note** today is our good friend Esa's last day (for awhile) as he prepares for surgery.  We wish him a speedy recovery and can't wait to see him again when he's ready!  Good luck Esa!

Monday October 18th

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 and 2 - we'll do a fun little 'brain stretching' activity in the morning for 'red light':

Then we'll read aloud a chapter from the BFG.  After that we'll share the highlights from our weekends in 'Weekend Round Up'.  Then we'll do a quick writing activity about using all of our senses.  If the weather holds up, we'll go outside and try the same activity outside with partners.

Period 3 and 4 is Math.  Normally it's art, but I want to collect leaves for our art lesson, so we'll switch it to math today and do art tomorrow instead.  We're going to continue on with adding 3 digit numbers with regrouping.

 Happy rainy Friday!

Here is the plan today:

Period 1 and 2 is reader's writer's workshop.  The kids will pick to read or write and on Fridays they can do this with a partner. 

Period 3 is Math.  We'll do an Esti-Mystery then finish up the math work from yesterday (3 digit addition with regrouping).

Period 4 we'll finally do the science that's been haunting me all week!  We'll learn a little more about plants, specifically the process of photosynthesis.  

Period 5 they have Mr. Butt for computers/library.

Period 6 we'll keep it low key.  Hopefully finish up any outstanding work, tidy up the class room and enjoy a little free time before the weekend!

Period 1-Reader's workshop.  Mini lesson on asking questions to engage with the text.

Period 2 Writer's workshop.  Mini lesson is about making 'writing goals'.

 Another whacky switch day...even though it's Wednesday, we're operating on a 'Monday' Schedule.

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  We're focusing on most desirable/least desirable reading behaviours. 

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll focus on setting 'dot goals' (if we can write to a dot we set before we begin).

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll have a mask break then use the chromebooks to continue conquering 'addition with regrouping'.

Both my kids were home sick.  Both have been tested and both are negative!

Period 1 we will finish our class read aloud, Sideways Stories from Wayside School and we'll have reader's workshop...mini lesson will focus on 'checking in with meaning'...to make sure we're understanding what we're reading.

Period 2 is French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 we have the chromebooks and we'll be doing some math games including prodigy...focusing on adding without regrouping...

Period 5 we have our Writer's workshop.  I'm hoping to play a little down by the bay and have the students make up their own rhymes.

Period 6 is Science.  We're going to continue to talk about the life cycles of plants and hopefully watch and episode of the Magic School Bus called, 'get planted'...that dives into photosynthesis.

Tuesday October 5th

 Fingers crossed for a less-wet sort of day.

 Happy October!  

Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 we're going to do a seating change (I try and do it monthly).  Then it's reader's workshop...mini lesson focuses on keeping our eyes and mind in the book we're reading.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  The mini lesson focuses on Stamina Mantras.

Headphones...

Many of the kids still don't have headphones...I've had a very generous offer from a parent to donate some headphones should we need it...but I'm not certain if we NEED them...or if students are just forgetting to bring them.

Thursday September 30th

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 and 2 we're going to discuss 'Orange Shirt Day'...what it's all about and why we're wearing orange. We'll go through some slides on this slide show that a colleague made.  I'll give the kids a chance to go through some of the stories on their Chromebooks as well. The remainder of the time the kids will be able to read (on Spark) or write (Google Drive).

Period 3 we're supposed to have an evacuation drill...so I'm sure I'm sure that will take most of this period.

Period 5 we'll do some more literacy...writer's workshop.  Mini lesson focuses on picking our best tool (pencils, pens).

Period 6 we're going to do a little science experiment.  We'll try dissecting flowers from my house and see if we can identify some of the parts of a flower (e.g., petals, stem, root, sepal etc..)

Remember, tomorrow is orange shirt day...please try to wear an orange shirt if you can!

Period 2 is literacy.  We'll focus on 'refocusing' our writing energy when we're getting distracted.

Period 3 and 4 is Art.  After a mask break we're going to try some OP (optical illusion) art...in the style of Bridget Riley.

 Here is what we did today.

Period 1 was reader's workshop- mini lesson focused on 'what I see and what I think (reading is thinking).  

Period 2 was writer's workshop.  The mini lesson focused on 'reading our writing to a friend, and giving praise'.  

Period 3 and 4 was math.  We had a short mask break, then we did our first 'Esti(mation) Mystery'.  After that, we played a fun game called Race to 50 (or 100).

Wednesday September 22nd

 OK...it's going to rain all day...wish me luck!

Here is what I am hoping happens today:

Period 1 -Writer's workshop - we're going to focus on building stamina and trying to 'refocus' when we've lost 'it'.

Period 2 is Mr. Woolley for French.

Period 3 and 4 we're going to use the chromebooks again to dive a little deeper into math prodigy.

Period 5 we'll do our first 'Plants' lesson and work on our title pages.

Period 6 I suspect we'll all need a little R and R and we'll have a little quit 'free time'.

Headphones

A couple of students asked me to remind them to bring headphones to school so they can work on the laptops (peacefully)....

If you have a set of headphones you could let your child keep in their desks...that would be amazing (and save me money on Aspirin).

The dollar store sells them (headphones...and possibly Aspirin?) ...if you're looking for a cheap pair.

Tuesday September 21st

 Happy Rainy Tuesday.

Period 1 -Mr. Butt - Health/Tech/Library

Period 2 Reader's workshop - focus on revising when things don't make sense.

Period 3 and 4 we're going to use the chromebooks to start playing 'math prodigy'.  A very fun math website. More information coming home today.

Period 5 we'll start discussing Plants for Science.  We'll brainstorm what we know already and work on a title page.

Period 6 is gym.  We'll play a couple of cooperative ball games.

Monday September 20th

 I'm going to try and blog early today....as I'll need to leave right away to vote (and get my daughter to swimming).

Period 1 we'll start off with our weekly 'Weekend Round Up'.  The kids will share 3 highlights from their weekends (if they wish).

Period 2 will be readers'/writer's workshop - students choice.  Our mini lesson will focus on 'going back to revise'.  

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a mask break before we start art.  Then for art will be creating cubist trees.  Sort of like this: http://krokotak.com/2017/09/cubism-autumn/

We'll discuss cubism and the cubist master, Picasso.  

Period 5 we'll have a mask break and read a story called 'Thunderboy' and do a quick graphing activity.

Friday September 17th

 Here is the plan for today!

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on 'backing up and revising'.  Which just basically means when you're reading something and it doesn't make sense...go back and retry.

Period 2 is writer's workshop...I'm hoping.  We also have a 'practise fire-drill' too.  The first one of the year usually takes awhile.

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a mask break, then we'll use the chromebooks for the first time this year.  I'm hoping to get all the kids to join our google classroom and introduce them to 'Spark Reading' (it's the new 'raz kids').  A letter will be coming home today with all their login information.  It's a brand new program so we'll all be learning together.

Period 5 they have Mr. Butt for library/tech.

Period 6 we'll ease into the weekend with a little mindfulness activity and some free time!  Woo Hoo!

 Another good day (almost) in the books!

Here is what we did today:

Period 1 we had reader's workshop.  Our mini lesson focused on expressing emotion when reading.

We had a couple of rounds of 'emotional charades'

Period 2 was writer's workshop.  Our mini lesson was about creating your best writing environment.

Period 3 and 4 we had a mask break.  Then we did some math.  We played the same Base Ten Bingo game from yesterday but just bumped up the difficulty.  Then we played this game (pages 3-9)

 Grrr...the dreaded period 2 prep...which means Wednesdays will be predictive posts!

Period 1 was great.  We came in and explored Base Ten blocks to make our own creations for Red-light/quiet work.  Then we read a chapter from Wayside school.  Next we did our reader's workshop and focused on using our 'linger fingers' to slow down.  After that we had a bit of time to write and share our writing.

Period 2 (now) Mr. Woolley is teaching the class French.

Period 3 and 4 I hope to do math.  We're going to focus on using Base Ten Blocks to help us count.  We will explore the manipulatives...play this game
