Tuesday April 12th

Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 -Mr. Butt -Library/Tech

Period 2 -Reader's workshop -our mini lesson will focus on points of view (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Person).

Period 3 and 4 -we'll do a nice mask break because it's beautiful outside.  We're actually going to plant some radishes in our learning garden.  Then Period 4 we'll do the math from yesterday that we never actually got to (location using a grid).

Period 5 is Writer's workshop.  As our 'Fake Newspaper' is starting to take shape, more and more kids are interested in having their articles 'published'.  We'll continue working on answering the 5 W's and using 3rd person to write our fake news.  I'm hoping to send out the 'fake news' on Thursday (before the long weekend).

Period 6 is gym.  If we stay inside, we'll play a fun new game called 'sink the ship'...but if it's nice, we may vote to go outside instead...

Special thanks to the parents who were able to donate connect 4 boards to the class!  That's amazing.  Thank you so much.

Friday April 8th

 TGIF!

Here is the 'plan' for today:

Period 1 and 2 is readers/writers workshop.  Fridays and Mondays the kids get to choose.  I'm hoping some of them will continue on with their 'fake news stories'...

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a mask break, then we'll do math.  I'm hoping the kids will make their own maps and use the location and movement language we've learned about make their own paths through their maps. (e.g., go up(north) 5 squares, and right(east) 5 squares to find the treasure)

Period 5 is Mr. Butt.

Period 6 I'm going to leave as finish up/free time/connect 4.

HELP?  Does anyone have any extra/old connect 4 boards laying around the house?  They don't have to be in pristine condition or anything...just hoping to collect enough boards to have a connect 4 tournament soon.  I have about 6...but 3 or 4 more would be amazing!!

Thursday April 7th

Another great day almost in the books.

Period 1 and 2 was reader's/writer's workshop.  We continued to discuss the 5 W's in newspaper articles.  We checked out this New York Times webpage, found cool pictures, and wrote our own fake news stories.

Period 3 we stayed outside with the other Grade 3 classes...it was beautiful (weather wise, and watching the kids play).

Period 4 was math.  We did some more location and rotation work.

Period 5 (now), is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we have gym, we'll play a game called 'zap' to warm up and finish with Bench-ball Soccer.

Wednesday April 6th

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Reader's workshop - which was mostly interrupted by our practise lockdown drill.  The kids were actually amazingly quiet and serious during this practise...very proud.

Period 2- French with Mr. Woolley.

Periods 3/4 -Math - We'll have a little mask break.  We're going to finish our Location and Movement assignment on Google Classroom, then I have a short quiz for the class to 'show what they know'.  After that they'll be able to choose whether they want to play prodigy or other location/movement games.

http://ferrarisgrade3.weebly.com/unit-8--motion-geometry.html - here is link (another teacher's website) to some of the things we've been covering in class.

Period 5 is writer's workshop.  We'll continue working on answering the the 5 W's when writing newspaper articles.

Period 6 is social studies.  This will be an introduction to our next unit (life in the early 1800's in Canada).  Today we're going to look at a timeline of historical events (e.g, dinosaurs, invention of iPhone) and see where in relation the 1800's are...and how life was different.  Early Settlers -timeline

April 4th

 Oh man!

My triumphant return to blogging...and I'm not even at school today.

Unfortunately something came up, but I fully plan on being there tomorrow.

Ms. Pinnington is in for me today.  She'll be teaching the class reader's/writer's workshop period 1 and 2.

Period 3 and 4 we're going to be drawing some beautiful spring flowers, using whichever medium the students prefer (e.g., pastels, crayons, markers)

Period 5 is math, they'll learn about symmetry and practise doing some work on symmetry.

Period 6 Mrs. Haynes has them for music.

Hopefully I will see everyone tomorrow.

Monday June 15th

If it's okay with you my faithful reader...I might shut this blog down for the year.   Thanks to everyone for all their support this ye...
