Friday December 17th

I just realized I didn't post my blog yesterday...sorry!  It's a little chaotic towards the end!  Both my readers I'm sure were devastated.  

Here we are, last post of 2021!  We made it...

We're going to do all sorts of cutting-edge teaching and learning today.  Hopefully, just maybe, squeeze in a little fun too.

I have no clue what January is going to look like, but I'm hopeful it will be in class at Glenview.  Fingers are crossed.

Until then, I want to wish you all a very safe and relaxing holiday!  I will see you in the New Year!

Wednesday December 15th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  We'll look at taking words apart and putting them back together to help us solve them (e.g., un-der-gr-ou-nd=underground)

Period 2 is French with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 and 4 is Math on the chromebooks.  We'll stay outside weather permitting for a bit, then come inside and answer some math prodigy questions.  If we have time, I'd like to do a 'game show' on knowledgehook (math website)

Period 5 and 6 we're going to hopefully star working on a little craft, maybe even put on a movie at the end of the day....

Tuesday December 14th

 Here is the 'plan' for today...'plan' being the operative word.  Lots of bouncy children.  

Period 1 is technology with Mr. Butt.

Period 2 is reader's workshop.  Our mini lesson will focus on 'looking for vowels that go together'...to help us solve words.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  After our mask break we'll do the math from yesterday that we didn't get to.  Looking at the parts of a bar graph and making bar graphs.

Period 5 is writer's workshop.  Mini lesson will focus on 'word mapping' (brainstorming to generate ideas). 

Period 6 we have the gym.  We'll play some more soccer games. 4 corner bench ball today.

Monday December 13th

 Last week of school...I'm not sure if it has flown by, or dragged on.  Depends which day you ask, I guess?

Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 and 2 we'll do this fun red light activity:

Then we'll share highlights from our weekends and read The One and Only Ivan.  After that it's student choice for reader's/writer's workshop.

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a healthy mask break and then jump into art.  We'll be looking at a 'worms eye' perspective to draw this snowman huddle:

Period 5 we'll do a bit of math.  We'll look a little closer at bar graphs and create our own.

Period 6 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Thursday December 9th

 Here are the plans for today.

Period 1 is red light, read aloud and reader's workshop.  The mini lesson will focus on skipping words we don't know and coming back later.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  I imagine most kids will continue to work on writing letters to their friends (they're really excited about this...and I'm really excited that they're excited about writing).  The mini lesson will focus on mix and matching story elements (characters, plot, settings).

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll have a healthy mask break.  Then we'll begin work looking at horizontal and vertical pictographs.  

Period 5 they have Mrs. Haynes for music.

Period 6 we have the gym.  We'll play a new soccer game called '4 corner soccer'.  Should be chaotic, but fun!

Wednesday December 8th

 Here is the plan for today...

Period 1 is reader's workshop and we'll start reading our new read aloud - The One and Only Ivan.

Period 2 is French.

Period 3 and 4 we'll have a healthy mask break.  Then we'll come in do a little work on mean and mode.  We have the chrome books booked.  I've got questions set up on Math Prodigy and Knowledge hook.

Period 5 we're going to 'live stream' the Science of Ice put on by the Ontario Science Centre.

Period 6 we'll use as finish up/catch up period.  Hopefully we can finish the rest of the Tale of Desperaux movie.

Tuesday December 7th

 Yikes....I just found out we're short on supply teachers...so the plans are going to change.  I'll be adapting on the fly after I put together my room after the filming for yesterday's musical.

Period 1 was supposed to be library tech, with Mr. Butt, but it is no longer.

Period 2 is was going to be writer's workshop.  We're working on letters for National Letter Writing Day.  We'll be writing letters to our friends in Mrs. Benison's class.

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We're going to look at collecting and organizing data a little more.  I'll introduce the concept of Mode and Mean (they'll use calculator's to figure out mean).

Period 5 is reader's workshop.  Hopefully we can read (and possibly respond) to Mrs. Benison's letters.

Period 6 is gym.  We'll play some more bench ball soccer.
