Tuesday Februrary 28th

 Last day of the month...already?

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -reader aloud and reader's workshop - mini lesson focusing on making our pauses match the meaning of what we're reading...

Period 2 is writer's workshop, we'll use the chrome books to finish our persuasive paragraphs on google classroom.

Period 3/4 we'll stay outside for a bit before we come in for math.  In math we'll look at the kilometre and do some more conversion activities.

Period 5 they have Mr. D for gym.

Period 6 we'll do a mindfulness art activity.

Monday February 27th

 Yikes...I forgot to blog today.

Period 1 desk clean out, and weekend round up.

Period 2 reader's/writer's workshop

Period 3 and 4 were outside and math...we looked at milimetres, and converting measurements (40 mm =4 cm)

Period 5 music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll do a Blooket I made on our class novel, Nose From Jupiter. 

Friday February 24th

Happy day after the Snow Day!!

Here is the plan for today...

Period 1- Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 2 is reader's/writer's workshop. I'm hoping to finish our persuasive paragraphs.

Period 3 Mrs. Alvarez is coming in to do some fun writing with our class.  We'll be using our powers of persuasion to write about our dream jobs.

Period 4 we'll try to play our own Boggle in groups.

Period 5 we'll stay outside for a little bit with the other Grade 3's.  When we come back in, we'll do a bit of math.  Converting mm to cm's and m's.  

Period 6 I've booked the chromebooks so we can enjoy a bit of free time before the weekend...hopefully do some fun coding on code.org.

Wednesday February 22nd

 Here is the plan for today! (Monday Schedule)

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  The lesson focuses on how to read 'fiction' books with fluency.  

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll write our persuasive paragraphs in 'good copy' on the chromebooks.

Period 3 is Math.   We'll start our new math unit on linear measurement.  We'll do some work on the smartboard, comparing cm's, mm's, and m's and KM's.  

Period 4 we'll answer some questions on Math Prodigy.  

Period 5 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll work on creating awesome paper airplanes in preparation for a competition we'll have another day (where we measure how far they travel).

NOTE: Please pay attention to the HDSB website to see if we're in school tomorrow with the impending storm.   

Tuesday February 21st

 Here is the plan for today...a 'Friday Schedule'.

Period 1 is Music with Mrs. Haynes/Pancake day.

Period 2 we'll finish our pancakes come back and share the highlights from our weekend and read a bit from A Nose From Jupiter.  Hopefully have some time for reader's/writer's workshop.

Period 3 and 4 is Math.  we'll stay outside for a little extra, then come in for math.  We never got to the division games I had planned for last week, so I'm hoping to play them today.

Period 5 and 6 we have the chromebooks, I'm hoping to feed the coding fire that the kids have been really interested in.

Thursday February 16th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 is reader's workshop.  We'll focus on reading some of the most common phrases in the English language as a warm up...to help us develop fluency.

Period 2 is writer's workshop.  We'll hopefully finish our rough copies of our persuasive paragraphs...then any extra time, I'll let them do coding, if they wish.  Check out some of the games we created yesterday:

Period 3 is Math.  Before we start our next unit on linear measurement next week, we'll play some more division games.  

Period 4 is Health with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 will be some STEM challenge time.  We'll try constructing our own kites using only straws, tape, string and plastic bags....

NOTE:  TOMORROW IS A PD DAY....please don't send your kids to school.

Wednesday February 15th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 we're going to celebrate a little bit of Black History Month by listening to author Yolanda Marshall do a video presentation.  

Period 2 we're going to do some coding, hopefully create our own version of 'Flappy Bird'.  

Period 3 is French with Mrs. O'Neil.

Period 4 is Computer Buddies, and I'm hoping we'll have our Flappy Birds games done and we can share/play with our buddies.

Period 5 we're going to do another 'STEM' challenge.  Today's challenge will be can you build a kite with just straws, tape and plastic bags.

Period 6 we will do library exchange.
