Period 1 Red light, read aloud, Reader's/writer's workshop.
Period 2 I'm going to attempt to teach the class how to play boggle.
Period 3 My Grade 2's are off to Smeaton/Raspopov and My Grade 3's are going to go visit Mr. Butt's Grade 3's and play some games with them.
Period 4 we'll play a school wide game of Bingo.
Period 5 we have computer buddies with Mrs. Evers' class.
Period 6 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 1 Red light, read aloud, and the phonics lesson from yesterday I never got to.
Period 2 Student choice, reader's/writer's workshop. I'll see if I can get the chromebooks for them to write on as an option.
Period 3 and 4 we're going to start watching 'Happy Feet'. We'll squeeze some outside time in there too. I'm also hoping to finish our holiday ornaments while the movie is playing.
Period 5 is Health with Mr. D.

Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 and 2, a former student of mine, Twoey Gray, came to our class to run a 'What the Heck Is Poetry?" workshop. It was amazing. It was so nice to see former students who have turned into amazing adults. She's almost 30 now! The kids and I had a blast.
Period 3 we made a deal, so 10 minutes of hard work, and you can have 30 minutes of free time.
Period 4 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 5 and 6 is art. We'll stay outside for a little bit, then come in and work on a holiday craft for art...it's top secret...you'll find out what we're making soon enough.

Period 3 is math. We'll play the 'Place Value Game' and do some worksheets that use Base Ten Blocks.
Period 4 is Drama / Dance / Music with Mrs. Haynes
Period 5 and 6 we'll look at negative and positive space and try our hand at making pumpkins that explore both negative and positive space.

Hopefully we can begin work researching a community somewhere in Ontario and digging into what kind of community it is (e.g., industrial, commercial, agricultural etc..)

Period 5 we'll stay outside for a bit. We'll come in and finish our Wayside cartoon from yesterday and compare and contrast the book vs. the movie.
Period 6 I have just a few math questions for them to answer on prodigy...then they'll have a bit of free time.

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, Writer's workshop - We'll continue on with our Poems from yesterday that we started...reviewing personification and similes.
Period 2 -Mr. D is coming in to cover me for a period. He'll be doing a prediction lesson with the class.
Period 3 is Social Studies...Grade 2's to Smeaton and Raspopov...Grade 3's stay here to finish our municipalities work...maybe begin work on types of land use (e.g., residential, commercial, conservation, etc...)
Period 4 is math. We'll look at Odd and Even numbers and I have a cool activity for them to do where they list as many of each odd and even numbers as they can.
Period 5 We'll watch episode 1 of Wayside, the cartoon and have a discussion on how it compares to the book.
Period 6 is Gym with Mr. D.

Period 2-writer's workshop: mini lesson focusing on using similes and personification.
Period 3 and 4 is math. We're continuing to understand numbers to 200 (Gr.2) and 1000 (Gr.3). We'll do some more ordering and comparing today. I also have a bit of skip counting to do as well. If we're lucky we might jump on Prodigy Period 4 to do some similar type questions I've posted.
Period 5 Mr. D has them for Health.
Period 6 we'll be finishing up our tropical sunset watercolour painting...and hopefully finishing up any unfinished work and cleaning up the classroom for tonights Open House.

Period 3 and 4 is math. We have some more 'skip counting' work to do and we'll talk about odds and evens. Period 4 I'll have some math prodigy questions that have to do with skip counting.
Period 5 and 6 I'm going to some water colour art...and maybe even get outside for a little bit.

Period 2 - We have a virtual meeting with a Terry Fox ambassador...I'm not entirely sure what it will entail, but we'll check it out. Hopefully learn a little more about Terry.
Period 3 and 4 we have math. We will look at expanded form (e.g., 423 = 400 + 20 + 3). I've got some work for them to complete and we'll play these games as a class:

Period 3 is Math. I'm hoping to do the pre-assessment from yesterday I never got around to...then introduce the concept of expanded form.
Period 4 is a Bus Safety assembly in the church.

During math class our whole room began to shake. We thought it was either an earthquake or a heard of elephants running down the hall. We went to the library to investigate. Turns out it was just some construction...but I love this picture for some reason.

Period 3 -Math - finish our patterning work from yesterday (figuring out pattern rules...eg. starts with 2 triangles and adds 3 each time.
Period 4 - Music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 5 & 6 -Social Studies. Grade 2's to Smeaton/Raspopov Grade 3's are going to use Google Earth to investigate cities located in each of the 3 landform regions of Ontario.
I'm also hoping to take the kids outside for a little bit too...if I can find some time!

Period 1 -Red light (setgame), read aloud (Wayside), Then we're going to talk a little bit about HDSB's bullying protocol. Mostly we'll talk about what "bullying" is.
Period 2 -we'll continue working on adjectives. We'll watch and episode of 'Wild Krats' and look specifically at the Snowy Owl...we'll keep a list of adjectives while we watch.
Period 3 and 4 -we've got some more patterning work to do. We'll look at how exactly to determine a pattern rule. Then I'm hoping we can go onto Google Drawings and make our own patterns on the computer.
Period 5 -I'm going to wrap up the rest of my HDSB mandated lessons by going over the HDSB's code of conduct. I've got a fun game planned to that sort of just reenforces that we're all part of the school community and need to do our part to be responsible citizens.
Period 6 Mr. D has them for gym.

This morning will be a little different, because I will be in the school doing some online training for a brand new reading assessment our School Board is rolling out for K-2. So Mrs. Sylvester will be in for me this morning.
I'm tapping into her artistic skills (I used to copy her ideas before she retired). She'll be doing watercolour self portraits with the class periods 1 and 2.
Period 3 Mrs. Sylvester is going to continue working on patterning with the class. Today we'll be looking at pattern rules.
Period 4 Depending on how we're doing I might take them outside or continue working on the math. It will be a game time decision.
Period 5 Mr. D will have them for Health.
Period 6 we will read some Wayside and use the rest of the period to finish up some unfinished work.

Period 5 and 6 is Social Studies. Grade 2's to Mrs Smeaton/Raspopov - Grade 3's with me...we'll be doing a job sort activity...(e.g., if you worked in a mine, then you'd probably live in the Canadian Shield somewhere). If my Grade 2's come back early enough, I'd really like another crack at singing Willlouby Wallabee Woo....stay tuned.

Period 1 -we will do the set game to start the morning. Then I'll read a couple of chapters of Wayside. Next the kids will continue to build up their independent reading stamina. Perhaps I'll impress them with another one of my 'wonderful songs'.
Period 2 we'll continue to work on the 'summer snapshot' activity we started yesterday.
Period 3 and 4 is math. Today they'll work with big paper to make their own patterns using prompts I'll give them (e.g., make an ABAB pattern). If we work hard I'll take them outside for a bit to enjoy this nice weather.
Period 5 we'll log on to Class Dojo...on Dojo island I'll have each student make their own pattern and I'll snap a pic of it asking them to explain it to me "it's an ABC pattern".
Period 6 is gym with Mr. D.
Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 - we 'crushed' the Setgame puzzle this morning...we finished it in one minute and 32 seconds! Then I read some Wayside. The kids had some time to read on their own...building up their stamina. We even started to talk about fire drills.
Period 2 (now) Mr. Woolley took them to his portable for their first French class.
Period 3 -We'll start our first math unit on Patterning. Today we'll be looking at attributes...and patterns that have changing attributes (e.g., colours, size, direction, shape). I have one page of work for them to complete.
Period 4 -I've set the class up with a Math Prodigy account. Today we'll hopefully learn how to log into Math Prodigy...and I've set up some more patterning/attribute questions on there.
Period 5 and 6 is our first Social Studies of the year. My 10 Grade 2's are going to go to either Mrs. Raspopov or Mrs. Smeaton's room to learn with the other Grade 2's....and the Grade 3's will stay with me while we start our 'living and working in Ontario' unit. Today we'll look at the 3 landform regions of Ontario (Hudson Bay lowlands, Canadian Shield and The Great Lakes/St. Lawrence lowlands).
Here is my plan for the day....we'll see if it actually happens.
Period 1 and 2 - I like to start every Monday morning with a what I call 'Weekend Round Up'. We'll sit in a circle and the kids will share 3 highlights (or lowlights) from their weekends. A great chance to get to know each other and practice attentive listening.
After that we'll read a chapter or 2 of Wayside School. The kids will have a chance to read on their own...we'll talk about picking just right books.
Period 3 they have music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 4 we'll talk about 2D shapes...naming them and such. Then we'll look around the class for some 2D shapes.

Periods 3 we'll continue to work on the dice rolling game, Sum it Up. Hopefully we can do a game as a class then they can play in partners.
Period 4 is their first period with Mrs. Haynes. She'll be teaching them either Music or Drama...I'm not sure.
Period 5 we'll attempt to log into the chromebooks again and see if we can explore Dojo Island.
Period 6 we'll have a quick circle, reflect on the week and enjoy a little free time...I've got a small group of kids intent on learning how to solve a Rubik's cube.

What a great day so far! I think I love this class. Thank you parents for raising such well behaved, kind children.
Here is what we did today:
Periods 1 and 2: we had some popcorn in a giant circle and shared small kernels of information about ourselves to our classmates. Then we listened to the book 'First Day Jitters' and drew pictures of how we felt this morning about school (most of us were tired but excited). We worked so hard that we even got outside for a few minutes before lunch.
Period 3 and 4 we started by playing the 'blanket game'...a fun quick naming game. Then we tried to sing Willoughby Wallaby ...but it was a disaster. Mr. Cross can't sing and play guitar at the same time...I'll practice tonight and hopefully get a recording out tomorrow.
We also came up with some class rules...and signed the rules showing we agree to follow the rules.
After our class rules we started working on an 'About Me' page where the kids tell me a little bit about themselves (e.g., favourite book, colour, family members)
Period 5 is gym/health with Mr. D. I believe he's doing some sort of fun Health activity to start the year.
Period 6 we'll have another community circle. I have sticker to give them for being such super stars. We'll enjoy some free time...and practice putting things back where we got them from!

My name is Adam Cross, I’ve been teaching in Halton for the last 19 years. I’ve taught every Grade from 2 - 6 (including all the splits in between), as well as a couple of years in a Behaviour Resource Class.

I’m not JUST a teacher, but also a parent too. I have two children. My daughter, Sophie, is going into Grade 8 and my son Eli, is starting Grade 6 this year. My wife is also a teacher and teaches Grade 1 for the Hamilton District School Board.
Yesterday we were at LaSalle part all day...it was lots of fun.

Period 2 all the Grade 3's will go outside and we'll be practicing for either the Long Jump or Ball Throw...just need to talk to the team to figure out which one.
Period 3 is gym with Mr. D.
Period 4 is Math...we'll work on fixing code.
Period 5 is buddies...we'll continue on from last week...subtraction fun, then some Dojo fun.
Period 6 I am hoping to get the class to practice logging in onto the EQAO website using the Ontario Education Number (OEN)...it's a bit of process, but I just want them getting comfortable logging on and navigating the website.
Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, Weekend Round Up.
Period 2 - Reader's/Writer's workshop -student choice.
Period 3 we'll head to the edible garden to transplant the tomatoes we're growing in the library.
Period 4 is Math -we'll look at some more EQAO questions and do some coding work.
Period 5 is supposed to be French but Mrs. Coffin is away so I'll probably keep the kids outside for some extra time.
Period 6 we'll finish up our social studies (Metis) work and maybe jump onto Math Prodigy.
NOTE - TOMORROW IS SWIM TO SURVIVE...WE'LL BE WALKING TO ALDERSHOT POOL RAIN OR SHINE.

Period 3 is Math. We'll look again at some more EQAO questions from previous years and do the 'coding' math work from yesterday we never got to. EQAO Grade 3 Questions Sorted by Strand
Period 4 is gym/health with Mr. D.
Period 5 is Art...we'll be designing our own Pop Can labels.
Period 6 is the final lesson from our CYC worker, Wafa...we will celebrate completing the 'chill club' with some tasty treats.

Period 1 Was red light, read aloud, and we learned a little bit about the musical performance 'Stomp' (thanks Yasmeen).
Period 2 was writer's workshop. We continued on with our 'silly' recipes.
Period 3 is gym with Mr. D.
Period 4 is math. We'll look at some old EQAO questions, then do a small coding activity (taken from the EQAO questions)...hopefully get outside for a little bit.
Period 5 is Computer buddies. We'll be playing some fun subtraction games with our buddies.
Period 6 is Free time...if we continue to earn it.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - we'll continue working on our recipes.
Period 3 and 4 is math. We'll finally get to the pre-algebra work I've had sitting on my desk for 3 days now. Hopefully a little prodigy and outside time too.

Period 6 if the Relay runners are back, we'll watch the 3rd episode of Read All About It...

Period 2 will be reader's writer's workshop - student choice.

After that we'll continue with pre-algebra questions and try to find the missing variables in subtraction and addition questions ( e.g., 5 + p = 10 ...what is the value of p). I'll put some questions on prodigy too for the early finishers.
Period 5 is music with Mrs. Haynes.
Period 6 I'm leaving open...it may be social studies (Metis), Science (plant parts) or free time (if we deserve it).

Period 3 we'll start watching the movie 'Holes' now that we finished the book.

Period 5 and 6 we'll continue to watch Holes...If the students wish to make a card for their mom's for mother's day, that will be an option as well.

The Grade 3's are coming home with another permission form today. This is for a field trip to Crawford Lake on June 5th (quite some time away). The cost is $24...please sign and return soon!

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud then we'll start writing our opinion paragraphs.
Period 2 -Wafa is coming in I believe to run the 4th session of the Chill Club.
Period 3 -Mr. D has them for gym
Period 4 -we'll do some more 'pre algebra' in math finding out the value of variables.
Period 5 we have buddies with our Grade 1 friends. We'll be playing some addition games with them.
Period 6 is book exchange/free time (if we deserve it)!

Period 1 - Red light, Read aloud (we'll finish Holes) and we'll finish the second episode of Read All About It. The class will answer the comprehension questions afterwards.
Period 2 is writer's workshop. We'll begin writing our persuasive paragraphs on whether we think computers in the classroom is a good or bad thing.
Period 3 and 4 is math. We'll look at balancing equations (addition and subtraction) trying to find the missing variable. I've got some work to do then afterwards I have some prodigy questions for them to answer.

Period 2 is writer's workshop - focus on persuasive/opinion based paragraphs.
Period 3 and 4 I'm hoping to get to the probability experiment from yesterday (we never got to it as I was solving a recess issue most of the period).
Period 5 is social studies...we're going to look closely at the Metis people/culture.

Period 2 we'll watch a Canadian gem, called Read All About It...a TVO show from my childhood that kids seem to still love...don't let your kids go ahead of us on Youtube!! We'll watch and episode and answer questions in a booklet. This really prepares the kids for EQAO and life by getting them to state part of the question in their answer.
Period 3 We'll play more probability SKUNK.
Period 4 is gym with Mr. D.
Period 5 we'll do some Art in the style of Kenojuak Ashevak.
Here is the plan for today:
Period 1 -Red light, read aloud and reader's workshop - we're going to dig a little deeper into the EQAO practice test we did yesterday...we'll take it up and get a chance to assess our selves.
Period 2 is writer's workshop - I'm hoping the EQAO marking doesn't take too long and we get some time to 'free write'...we shall see. Period 4 is Math. I'll teach the kids a really fun probability game called SKUNK. We'll play a few rounds of it before lunch.
Period 5 is tech. buddies. Today we'll help the Grade 1's build a 3D shape (of their choice) and divide it into equal parts (fractions).
Period 6 we'll head to the library for book exchange and enjoy a bit of free time...hopefully.
