Friday September 18th

 I can't believe I forgot to post yesterday...my apologies...we did stuff!

Here is the plan for today.

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop shop.  We'll talk about what good 'partner reading' looks and sounds like.

Period 2 is Writer's workshop.  The other day we struggled to write for 5 whole minutes...we're going to continue to build stamina and do it again today!

Period 3 is math.  We're going to review 'expanded form' and use base ten blocks to make creations and count them.  

Period 4 we'll try logging into Knowledge hook again to do a game show and activity.

Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 we'll watch the pilot episode of the Wayside cartoon!

Just a quick reminder, I will be away all of next week, I will check my emails when I return.  Mrs. Sylvester will be filling in for me...so no blog posts next week!

Wednesday September 16th

 Here is how today is 'supposed to go'.

Period 1- Red light, Class Discussion - being responsible and kind, independent reading

Period 2 -writer's workshop - brainstorming things we love

Period 3 - Math -we'll try to log on to Knowledgehook and familiarize ourselves with this Board supported math program.

Period 4 - Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 -We'll do the mindfulness origami from yesterday I didn't get to, and then try and figure out our friends math 'Figure Me Out' Sheets.

Period 6 - I'm hoping we earn free time...We're really pushing responsibility, inclusion and kindness

Tuesday September 15th

 Here is plan for today:

Period 1: Red light, read aloud, finish up all about me page -'My family'.

Period 2: First french period with Mr. Woolley.

Period 3 - We'll start by trying to solve the 'skyscraper' puzzle from yesterday...then I'm hoping to take the kids outside for an 'outdoor math' activity.  We may stay out there for a few minutes too.

Period 4 -when we come back in, I've got another math game called 'sum it up'.  We'll try learning and playing that one to build our basic math facts.

Period 5 I'm going to try the mindfulness activity from yesterday that I didn't get around to.  We'll be folding an origami dog and then trying to do it independently before asking for help (or giving up!!). Mr. Cross will be trying it too.

Period 6 I'm hoping we keep up the awesome work and earn a bit of free time? 

Monday September 14th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - We'll do our first 'weekend round up' where we share highlights from our weekends.  We'll do this every Monday.  Today we'll talk about attentive listening.  We'll also talk about the proper procedure for a fire drill.

Period 2 is our first Fire drill.  Any extra time we'll spend working on the next page of our About Me Books.

Period 3 and 4 are Math. We'll continue to build some resiliency and independence and I'm going to show them a couple of games hopefully.  

Period 5 is a mindfulness period.  We'll do a little origami and practice the power of 'Yet'.  

Period 6 is gym.

Friday September 11th

 First week of Grade 3, (almost) complete.

A good one too!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light (quiet activity), read aloud, independent reading (I'll be doing a quick phonics-screener with all the kids).  I also want to review our class motto and rules and go over the success (and failures) of yesterday's team building activity (cup stacking).

Period 2 -Writer's workshop- continue working on our All About Me Books...focusing on trying our best and being proud of our work!

Period 3 -Is math, we're going to do a little 'Figure Me Out' math sheet.  

Period 4 -Our first assembly of the year.

Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 I'm hoping to get the kids to log into the chromebooks for the first time...there will be hiccups!

Thursday September 10th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - We'll do our red light (quiet activity).  Then we'll have a discussion about our class rules, our class motto...and really just try to work on building a class community of hard working, kind kids.  Then we'll read a bit of Wayside and the kids will have their own independent reading time.

Period 2 We'll continue working on our 'all about me' books.  Some kids are rushing through too fast, and not taking pride in their work...others are going too slow and not getting much done because they're almost too proud!

Period 3 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 4 we'll do a little more math....trying again to work on that growth mindset.  I heard a lot of "I can't do math, I'm not good at it".  I'm trying to erase that language and replace it with " This is hard, but I'm going to work hard and try my best to do this".  

Period 5 I've got a team building/responsibility building activity planned.  Then we'll have some quiet finish up time.

Period 6, if it all goes according to plan we'll enjoy a bit of free time. 

Wednesday September 9th

Just a little FYI, my daughter goes to Aldershot High School, so I usually get to school quite early, and leave right away, so often my blogs are written at the start of the day...what I HOPE and plan to happen....it doesn't always go that way. 

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - We'll do a quiet 'red light' activity to start the day.  I'm going to read a funny book called 'But It's Not My Fault'.  We'll go over our class motto and rules.  Then we'll have some time to read on our own...we'll work on picking appropriate books and putting books back from where we got them.

Period 2 we'll begin work on our 'All About Me' books. 

Period 3 we'll do a tiny bit of math, mostly focusing on our Social Emotional Learning, knowing we can do hard things.

Period 4 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 and 6 we'll so a bit of 'name art' talking about warm and cool colours.  I think we'll finish pretty early and get to have a little free time too..I hope.

September 8th

 Day 1...almost complete.

What a great day so far.  We all have a bit of 'summer brain' so today was just about getting to know each other and following the rules.  

Period 1 and 2 - We found our desks and hooks.  We had some popcorn and shared a few tid-bits of information about ourselves with the rest of the class.  We read the book "First Day Jitter" and did a quick activity about how we felt about coming to school.  Most kids were excited and a bit nervous (just like their teacher).  I shared our class motto:  It's ok not to know.  It's not ok not to try. I'm curious if any of them remember it...quiz them at home tonight!

Period 3 and 4 we played the 'Blanket Name Game', came up with some class rules. Sang Willoughby Wallaby (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Cx-21573X1TITaqlnJiM7TkwHRQxZ43s/view?usp=sharing) .  Hopefully that works and you can hear.  We went outside for a game of Squirt and started reading Sideways Stories From Wayside School. 

Period 5 and 6 (happen next)-we'll sing another song from my camp days, Aroostacha.  We'll go to our 'mailboxes' to get our yellow school medical forms (coming home tonight...paperwork for the parents).  We'll finish up our First Day Jitters activity and hopefully have a bit of Free time and practice cleaning up!  

I've done this job for over 20 years...every year I get so nervous before the start of school...and by First Break, I'm right back in the saddle and loving my class!  I can tell this will be a great year.  Thank you!

Monday June 8th

 Here is what we did today....

Period 1 -Red light, Read aloud, Weekend Round Up

Period 2 - We had an 'evacuation drill'....which took up most of the period.  We ended up getting a bit of time to read/write/play with our friends.

Period 3 and 4 we walked to Aldershot and saw our buddies one last time.

Period 5 gym with Mrs. Gingrich (Mr. D was away).

Period 6 we'll finish the fun day with some free time.

I'll apologize in advance....usually my blogs become less frequent towards the end of June...so much happening.

Reminder, Wednesday is Crawford Lake Field Trip...Thursday is Track and Field. 

Thursday June 4th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, reader's workshop:  we need to get back to basics and remember how to read independently.

Period 2 -I'm going to try and track down the chromebooks to do some 'zine' research.

Period 3 -we'll talk a little bit about creating our own 'carnival game' using probability.

Period 4 - is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 -is chromebook buddies, we'll show them the vile vendor and take them to the probability fair.

Period 6 -we'll cruise into the long weekend (tomorrow is a PD day) with some free time.

Wednesday June 3rd

 I have June brain....sorry.  I forgot to post yesterday.  But we did stuff.

Period 1 and 2 -Red light, read aloud, Work on our 'Zines'. We talked a little about Morphemes...and how they transform words (prefix's and suffix's).

Period 3 - Math - Probability using spinners. 

Period 4 -Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 and 6 is art. We'll be doing some Onomatopoeia art work...hopefully get outside for a bit too!

Monday June 1st

 June?  We made it!

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Red light, read aloud, weekend round up.

Period 2 -we'll talk about Ontario day and write living and working in Ontario on Postcards.

Period 3 and 4: we'll stay outside for a bit....when we come in we'll discuss the language of probability.

Period 5 is gym with Mr. D.

Period 6 is Health, we'll look at body image and hopefully have a bit of free time.

Friday May 29th

 Here is what we did today:

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, Seating Swap and Beatrix's Anime slideshow.

Period 2 -we did more research for our 'zines'.

Period 3 - we enjoyed the fresh air outside.

Period 4 -we explored 'probability fair'..to get us ready for our next unit on Probability.

Period 5 -we earned some free time.

Period 6 -gym with Mr. D.

Thursday May 28th - Fun Fair!

 I expect today (and tomorrow) to be a little chaotic.  The Glenview Fun Fair is always an exciting time of the year.

Here is the plan...but subject to change!

Period 1 - Red light, read aloud, and we'll jump on Microsoft Make Arcade to refresh our coding chops before buddies.

Period 2 - I'm going to introduce the students to mini-zines....they're going to self publish tiny magazines of things they're interested in...we'll begin thinking about it today.

Period 3 is math.  We'll finish up our money unit by making change.

Period 4 is music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 5 is buddies, we'll do some coding with Mrs. Ever's class.

Period 6 is free time!

Wednesday May 27th

 Today will be similar to yesterday:

Period 1 and 2 - EQAO - Language (reading) Session C, and Language (writing) Session D.

Period 3 and 4 - Math Stage 3 and 4 - EQAO Done!

Period 5 and 6 - Math test....just kidding.  We'll keep it light.  There is a questionnaire for the kids to fill out.  We'll read some Holes, have some free time and celebrate being done EQAO for the next 3 years.

Fun Fair tickets coming home tonight.

Tuesday May 26th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Red light, Read aloud, and a fun Blooket...that has nothing to do with school...just trying to keep it light today.

Period 2 - French - Mr Woolley

Period 3 & 4 - Language EQAO -reading and writing

Period 5 & 6 Math EQAO 

In previous years, it hasn't taken the entire 100 minute block to complete EQAO...so if everyone finishes early, we'll sneak outside.
