Friday April 12th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 and 2 -reader's/writer's workshop - student choice

Period 3 Math - design our own flags (and write about fractions)

Period 4 gym

Period 5 and 6 -Art OP (optical illusion) spring flowers / Movie!

Wednesday April 10th

 Here is the plan for today:

First off, we'll welcome Mrs. Benison's Grade 3 girls while she takes the Grade 4's on a field trip.

Period 1 - Reader's workshop. We'll talk about where words are in the sentence to help us figure them out (e.g., verbs are usually right after nouns).  

Period 2 is Writer's workshop - I'm hoping my last few students will finish and present their Choose Your Own Adventure slideshows...and hopefully we begin work on writing proper paragraphs.

Period 3 and 4 Math - We'll finish up the Fraction Flag activity we're doing in partners from yesterday.  After that the students will hopefully design their own flags and figure out the fractions of the colours they use.  If it's nice I'm sure we'll get outside at some point.

Period 5 is Music with Mrs. Haynes.

Period 6 we'll use the chromebooks to finish coding our balanced eco systems.  

Tuesday April 9th

 Happy Day after the eclipse?  

Here is the plan for today:

Period 1-Red light, Read aloud and Weekend Round up.

Period 2 -Reader's/Writer's workshop - student choice (acting like a Monday)

Period 3 -Wafa the CYC worker is coming in to run the 3rd instalment of the 'chill club'.

Period 4 -Math -we'll look at flags from various countries and try to figure out the fractions of colours.

Period 5 -We'll dig a little deeper for social studies and narrow in on life in Canada around 1890...and where in the timeline we did last week, that period fits in....we'll have discussion about how some things are the same and some things are different...and what life might of been like back then.  

Friday April 5th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 - Reader's/Writer's workshop -lots of scrabble, boggle and comic making with friends.

Period 2 -We continued to work on CYOA slideshows and prodigy for the early finishers.

Period 3 -we'll present our slideshows and design our own 'fraction flags'.

Period 4 -gym with Mr. D.

Period 5 and 6 is art...we're going to do some Solar Eclipse chalk pastel work that should hopefully look sort of like this:

Thursday April 4th

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 -Reader's Workshop - mini lesson will focus on using clues to figure out unfamiliar words (e.g., if it's right after a noun...chances are it's a verb)

Period 2 -Writer' workshop -we'll continue to work on our Choose Your Own Adventure slideshows...hopefully finish soon.  

Period 3 we'll continue working in small groups organizing a timeline of events.  Mostly we need to chat about 'good group work vs bad group work'.  We'll share the actual order of events.  

Period 4 is math.  We'll look at several different flags and talk about fractions (2/3 red, 1/3 white).  We'll design and describe our own flags.  

Period 5 is French with Mrs. Coffin (Monday Schedule).

Period 6 is I'd love to work on Dojo Island...see if we can create some 'fraction' based creations.  

Wednesday April 3rd

 Period 1- Reader's workshop -mini lesson focusing on 'picturing it' to help us understand.

Period 2 -Writer's workshop - continue working on our CYOA slideshows (hopefully finish them...maybe even present a few).

Period 3 and 4 is math.  We'll look at fractions as part of a set/group and do this work:

Period 6 we'll do a little team building activity then work in small groups to organize events from history into a timeline.  

Tuesday April 2nd

 Here is the plan for today:

Period 1 and 2 -Desk Swap!  I moved the carpet and re arranged the desks...we'll see how this works...at least for now?  We'll clean and organize our desks and acclimatize to the new set up.  After that we'll read move of The Homework Machine. We'll treat today like a Monday, so the kids will be able to choose to read or write for reader's/writer's workshop today.

Period 3 Wafa the CYC worker will be coming in to do lesson 2 of her 'chill club'.  

Period 4 we'll play a fun 'I Have, Who Has' fraction game.  

Period 5 we'll use the chromebooks to hopefully finish coding our eco systems

Period 6 is Music with Mrs Haynes.
